Question Sill freshening

I just acquired a 09 997 and have a couple of questions that someone might be able to help me with. First the black plastic material just inside the door jam has pretty significant scuffing from the previous owner dragging his shoes across the scuff plate when entering the car. The scuffing is beyond any help provide by Amor All, it helps but the scuffing still shows. does anyone have a technique for bringing back a more consistent appearance on scuffed black plastic door sills?
My second problem is more difficult. My car is equipped with lit aluminum door sills. At some point someone used something very abrasive on the surface. In good light you can see significants scratches probably caused by something like steel wool or a brillo pad. I assume this is a raw metal piece without any coating applied. I'm thinking my only solution is to go after it will fine steel wool until I achieve an even finish, but the whole idea scares me a little. Has anyone tried to restore these sills before and if so how and what was the result? Thanks for any advice provided..

Regarding your first point, someone once wrote about laying aluminum foil on the trim piece then smoothing out the scuffing using an iron on very low heat.

Thanks. although it sounds kind of scary, I guess if you keep the heat really low and see what happens. For the process to work I assume you're slightly melting the material to a more even surface texture. I was thinking more along the lines of a mildly abrasive scrubbing pad to even up the surface? I'm hoping someone has actually tried something first hand that worked. Thanks for the tip in any case....

Have you tried an aluminum polish? That would contain abrasives specific for the task. I haven't run into these issues before though.

Try posting over on autopia.org....great Detailers forum.

To fix the scuffing on the door sill you can spray it with flat black lacquer spray paint and it will be like new. There's a DIY write up in the forum here or over on 6speed. I did it and it worked fantastic! Not sure what to do about the aluminum door entry guard.
