991S Car Care and Detail
I'm about to receive my car in about 2 months and was wondering what do other RennListers use to detail their vehicles. What does everyone recommend to do on a new vehicle and what products should I use? In addition, what brands should I use as well. I was thinking about getting a Random Orbital by Griot's but I have never polished before and I am scared to mess up the clear coat.
Thanks,
Thanks,

I like chemical guys stuff and I have a flex polisher. There's lots of good brands out there like pinnacle, menzerna, dodo juice, etc. I'm not so hot on anything griots. To me their stuff is entry level to premium stuff. Check out autogeek forums.

You technically shouldn't need a random orbital on a new car. The key is to spend the money on the right cleaning products and learn how to properly clean the car without introducing scratches/swirls. The link TOGWT provided is a great starting point.
As far as products to use, everyone has a preference and what I learned years ago from one of the pro's (Mike Phillips) back when he was still working for Meguiars is find what you like and use it often. If you're picky on appearance then try Carnauba's and Sealants and decide which look and level of protection you prefer.
In my opinion, Pinnacle's high end products (Souveran, Crystal Mist, Souveran Spray Wax) are excellent both in appearance, function and ease of application. The prices aren't outlandish either but not cheap.

The main reason to use a buffer is to remove marks in the paint such as swirl marks. I have been detailing my cars for as long as I can remember, so I will be happy to give you a few tips to make your life easy and keep your car looking new. NEVER go to a car wash. Do it yourself at home using a good car wash product, a quality wash mit and quality microfiber towels for drying. And no matter what you are doing, move your hand back and forth following the length of the car...never in a circular motion. When your car needs a full exterior detail, wash, then clay the car using a good quality claybar to remove contaminants from the surface. Then wax. If you have swirl marks, then prior to waxing you will need to polish, either by hand or with an orbital. But if you follow the above steps from the get-go, you will rarely need to polish. For waxing, you can use a high quality wax product or a polimer. The problem with wax is it just does not last. Over the years, i have tried almost every product that you will read about, including some that sold for over $100.00. Keep in mind that I drive 18K miles a year and only own one car at a time. The only product that i use is Rejex. It is a polimer that lasts and protects, and that is all i really care about. The shine is deep and glossy, and things like bug splatters easily wipe off with a damp microfiber towel. I really don't care if Zaino, Zymol, Mothers, PX-21, or you name it gives a tad bit better shine...I have tried them all. I want paint protection and one that lasts. And you can use Rejex on your wheels, glass and clear bra (which I advise you get). Some people Rejex once or twice a year. I do it every 3 months. I wash my car weekly and never use a california duster. To remove simple dust or grime between washes I use Adam's detail spray. So that's a simple start for you. Interior detailing will be a subject for another day.
