At a minimum, the paint should have the wax removed and then clayed. Depending on the condition of the paint (and size & location of the decal) maybe consider a multi stage polish to remove any swirls and properly correct the paint.

Thanks. Just wanted to see whether there was anything extra that might be considered such as using a little isopropyl alcohol, etc...

I though about the alcohol, too. Maybe post your question in the racing forum, and it will get more play.

Isopropyl certainly won't hurt. I agree that if the area doesn't look great it would be a great time to polish the paint before applying the decal. Once the decal is applied you won't be able to machine polish the area without risk of damaging the decal.

No problem there... the area is showroom and I hand polish. I wonder what the factory process is when they apply? (GT cars)

Give the area a wipe down with IPA. Sounds like you dont need anything else.
