Default Aluminum Protectant?

Planning on detailing my 993's engine bay and am leaning toward using P21S products and a diluted mix of Simple Green and water. Open to better suggestions of course.

It is my understanding that the alkaline nature of said cleaners can accelerate corrosion of aluminum.

Does anyone use an aluminum protectant post-cleaning? A google search turns up a product called "Sharkhide" but I have no basis of reference on this product. Additionally I am concerned about flammability issues in the presence of heat in the engine bay during normal operating conditions.

What do other RL'ers do to protect the aluminum surfaces post-cleaning?

TIA.

I believe P21S Total Auto Wash like their wheel cleaners, is PH balanced. You can also vary the strength of the Total Auto Wash to suit the application. As long as the engine is completely cool when you clean it, you should be fine, just like cleaning wheels.

I second the use of P21S Total Auto Wash as its a safe non-flammable, d-limonene-based (citrus) cleaner

12. To shine aluminium engine block / parts use # 0000 synthetic bronze wool and a metal polish, English Custom Polishing - ECP
16. When everything is dry apply a vinyl/rubber protection to hoses, shields and wires, and wipe engine parts with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care or 303™ Aerospace Protectant
17. Clean hard plastic and protect with 1z Plastik Reiniger
18. Wipe off any excess with a clean cloth and apply a wipe on, walk away Clear Sealant (Zaino Clear Seal Z-CS) or a spray wax protection to all painted surfaces.
19. Remove all electrical component coverings that you’ve applied

+3 on P21TAW. I haven't noticed any corosion issues on anything in my engine bay or undercarriage over the past two years.

Good suggestions from TOGWT, I use the same approach although with slightly different products.

Go with TAW....very versatile. You can use it t clean wheels wells, tail pipes, door jambs, etc.

We'll be having a sale coming up on our entire store later this week...

All you need to know..

Swish Facto AT-30 water-based degreaser and cleaner.

Unless you live near a Swish outlet, its only available by ordering. The upside; about $3 per liter.

Nothing. Mine never dull or corrode. I've been using this product for 24 years on my cars and motorcycles.
