Leather Protection

Dependent upon the finish applied a surface a protection product provides a Scotchgard™ type protection specifically formulated for leather

Type I – Aniline Pigmented Leather

Leather Master™ - Protection Cream provides excellent protection against every kind of soiling, water, oil, alcohol-based stains and perspiration marks.

This enhances the durability of your leather, so your leather will maintain the original gloss as well as a nice soft touch through the years. Its water and oil repellent effect is particularly suitable for leather used in cabriolets. Heavily used seats and steering wheels quickly become glossy as the soil “polishes” the leather. Protection Cream brings back the matte sheen to the leather.

It should be applied to new leather upholstery before use, particularly on sensitive or light colours, and after any cleaning process. Acts as a protective barrier which assists in the removal of every day light soiling, helps to resist dye transfer and (suntan) oil stains and makes its removal more successful, it reduces surface scratching and enhances colours on aniline leathers

Type II - Urethane Covered Upholstery

Unlike cloth or leather, the surface of urethane generates static, which attracts dust. As a result, it can quickly become grimy; although vinyl and urethane covered upholstery is the easiest to clean. Do not use regular household soap and water as they may permanently remove the sheen

Urethanes fibre structure will stretch in all directions with no particular grain or stress pattern. The urethane surface coating will not withstand multi directional stress, however, and when it’s flexed or stretched continuously in the same place the surface coating develops minute cracks. The pigmented coatings on leather are relatively thin; therefore they will show creases and these areas are more likely to show a sign of cracking (side bolsters) it is the pigment/finish coating that cracks and not the leather itself so keeping the leather clean, minimizing dirt / grit abrasion will help prevent dirt from causing a problem.

The urethane coating needs to be regularly cleaned to prevent the accumulation of dirt and body oils from damaging the finish. A protector will form a barrier between the surface coating and any dirt / grit which along with body friction will abrade the surface. Protection with 1z einszett Vinyl Rubber Care & Potectant "Tiefenpfleger” provides a temperature-resistant seal and a an anti-static satin matte finish Dust-resistant and retards the fading effects of UV rays to keep exterior ‘rubber’ and vinyl looking like new and makes it easier to clean and helps prevent damage

Alternate products- Optimum Protectant Plus has a balance of cleaners, penetrating oils, and UV inhibitors that restores the original colour of these surfaces, protects against and hides any scratches, and protects against sun damage

Type III - Alcantara® Leather

Leather Master™ Nubuck Eco Protector (N-Nubuck / Alcantara®) Nubuck /Suede Protectant are a water based product for highly sensitive leathers, it took several years to perfect, and was difficult to formulate due to the potential damage caused by water. It may be used on furniture, clothing, shoes, and accessories.

Eco-Protector provides an oil, water and alcohol barrier on Nubuck and suede. This unique formula is a step forward from the previous Leather Master Aerosol protectant, an environmentally safe, solvent free formula

No (see TOGWT post above)

Beeswax (or any other organic or inorganic wax) and silicone are hydrophobic, which means they will not allow the replacement of moisture lost through evaporation, nor allow the movement of moisture back and forth (evaporation and hydration). Silicone again, not ideal for leather in the same way wax or oils aren’t, as they seal the surface and make it slippery, something I personally don’t enjoy in any car. Silicone also helps attract dust, make it artificially shiny (losing that beautiful, natural leather sheen) and can help bring on cracks in polyurethane coated surfaces as it builds up with each coat applied. The net effect of which is dehydration leads to drying and cracking of the surface
