1987 928 S4 Exterior Detail
I had the privilege of performing a full exterior detail on an 87 Porsche 928 S4. The owner of the car was great to work for. My Total time to do this was 15 Hours.
Steps included:
1. Wash Including removing old wax/polish from the crevices
2. Clay
3. Wash Again to remove clay residue
4. Dry
5. Compound Polish Paint using Meguiars 105
6. Finish Polish Paint using Meguiars 205
7. Disassembly of Front Fogs and Rear Lights for Cleaning - performed by customer
8. Single coat of Pinnacle Souveran Carnauba Wax
9. Condition all exterior rubber/plastic trim
10. Clean all exterior glass
The paint correction was necessary to remove deep swirls, scratches and damage caused by bugs, acid rain and water spots as can be seen from the pictures.
Here are a few before/after shots.
Feel free to ask questions.

Afshin,
Are you talking about that deep scratch that got treated with a non matching red paint? Its on a fender. Still have to find a good paint shop in the area, will probably post in a local section and see if anyone has a suggestion...

No the scratch can be repaired without a respray. It won't be perfect but it can look good. Are you planning to come up for the Boston Shark Party in September?

Burning Brakes
September is so far away... I don't know my plans for this coming week yet
Biggest problem is confidence though, I really need to buy jacks and raise the car to check on flex plate and whatever else. Even though I did PPI on it, I still have my doubts... The guy was telling me how he needs to check ABS with Bosch hammer and that's a long and pricy procedure; I fixed it myself by simply swapping relay for a new one. Same with air conditioner - doubt he checked it because it definitely has a leak (it used to blow cold, but now it blows hot air only). Now I wonder if there are any other issues... I also want to change oil and brake fluid. Have no idea how to do either, but I know I won't be paying anything to that guy - need to figure these out before going on a long trip.

Afshin,
Btw, I know you mentioned Langa to me before for the scratch. Is there a particular reason you prefer it over Dr.ColorChip?
I'm buying PC from Phil later on today or tomorrow. Will probably start slowly polishing car on weekend... Should I fix the scratch and mirrors prior to that? I don't think it really matters, does it?

Afshin did an outstanding job. The photos are good, but the true differential between the before and after really can only be best appreciated in person. I waited well over a year for Afshin to be available to come and do the work and it was worth the wait. I am very particular about this car and pretty much avoided looking at the paint since it was in such bad shape. But now I can actually look at it and enjoy it and appreciate the car from the outside as much as I do from the inside. Afshin knows the 928's exterior very well so he was well practiced at how to best take care of the paint and get all of the spots that might be missed by someone doing a 928 for the first time.
Even more importantly, he was very friendly and patient as my father and I asked lots of questions about what he was doing, his rationale and the products he preferred. As a result, my father is placing an order based on Afshin's recommendations so that he can do his own 928. My father's 928's paint is in much better shape than mine was, but could still use some TLC. Thanks to Afshin's recommendations and demonstration, my father will be practicing on an old car and then working on his own 928's paint.
Afshin did a great job and I'd recommend his work to anyone. Well worth the wait and whatever it costs. I only wish he could have had more time to help me with the interior, but as he and Merlin said, the interior is already in very good shape.
Afshin, I have several photos of you working on the car, but didn't want to post them without your permission. If you'd like me to, I'd be happy to put them up or just send them to you.
