Default Chrome tips - bringing back to life?

Cant find an answer to this (search function not too good) but my chrome exhaust tips are pitted and have small spots of rust in places where they have been scratched ie on the ends. Is there a process and product(s) that can restore them or do I need to get them rechromed?

Many thanks for any advice

I use Eagle One Never dull on my Stainless tips. Works pretty good and can be purchased at Wal-mart.

I've used the above product and it is pretty good at cleaning up but it isn't heavy-duty and isn't a material polish (no aggregate, just chemical) so you may want to keep looking if you're trying to touch up some considerable damage.

A quick way to add more bite to metal polishes is to apply it with some 0000 grade steel wool. Work that in thoroughly, then reapply it with a foam applicator pad to bring out the maximum depth and gloss. I usually turn to P21S Finish Restorer for metal polishing. It has micro-abrasives paired up with chemical cleaners. Not the most aggressive metal polish out there, but it handles most of my needs.

Hope this helps.

If the tips are truly chrome plated and pitting/rusted then you probably will have partial success with metal polish. The rust may come off but you will probably be left with an uneven surface. If the tips are stainless then you should be able to polish them smooth.

If chrome, take them off and find a local plating shop to replate them.

Thank you, very helpful. Taking steel wool to the SS scares me a bit as it would seem to intuitively leave many small scratches but I guess you are saying the final polishing stage with a foam applicator takes care of those. I will give it a try
