Default Few questions regarding RO polish and wax technique

Just a few practical questions before my first random orbital polish and wax.

1. Any easy way to work around the sunroof? Do you polish over the seam and then try to clean the fabric or avoid the fabric at all costs?
2. The same goes for those rubber joints in the roof panel.
3. I have a clear bra. How do you handle this? Wax only?

Thanks from a rookie in Minnesota.

I would tape the area off to save polish getting on the fabric / seams

Yes

Maintenance and Care- polyurethane protection film is porous, that's why it's so important to keep the film sealed. Dirt, dust, and other air born impurities left on unsealed film will eventually cause the film to become dull. Clean and maintain its surface with (Z-8™ Grand Finale Spray Seal) or a plastic cleaner (Plexus®

Plastic Cleaner, Protectant and Polish) tape the edges of the auto mask and lightly glaze over the material; start at the centre and work outwards, do not use detailer’s clay as it will cause micro-fine surface scratches.
Ultra Violet Protection; more correctly, UV absorbent is a sacrificial ingredient that needs to be re-applied on a regular 2 – 4 month basis (dependant upon climatic conditions) - 303™ Aerospace Protectant

1.To clean stains - .use a d-limonene based (citrus) cleaner (P12S Total Auto Wash) polish the paint and the clear plastics separately, tape the edges with masking tape. It has a clear coat so it can be cared for like a clear coated paint; use Zaino or Klasse as they will dry ‘clear’. Use Z-14 Plastic Magic Cleaner & Polish™ or Plexus® Plastic Cleaner, Protectant and Polish for maintenance and to remove any finger marks / smudges (avoid the use of abrasives)

2.To remove minor scratches in the film - (tape the edges of the auto mask when polishing the vehicles paint, use a high speed buffer (white foam pad only) and lightly glaze over the material. Menzerna.Final Polish 106FF, LC White foam pad at 800-900 RPM do not use any downward pressure and maintain a fast linear speed than used on a paint surface; if you apply too much heat to this material it tends to ‘lift’. It is also important not to apply a lot of pressure to the film as this may lead to burning of the surface. Use a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol to clean out the edge (See also 3M website- http://www.mmm.com)

3.What can be done about wax build up along the seams and how can I avoid it? .
Wax will leave a white line on the seam, it is recommended not to wax over the seams and wax the film and uncovered portions separately to keep from wax build-up. If you accidentally wax over the seam, soak a Q-tip / swab in a 1:1 solution of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) /distilled water; gently wipe the seam, once the wax has dissolved use a micro fibre towel to wipe the residue from the edge of the clear bra.

4. Clear bra polish- Menzerna PO 85 RD3.01 LC Blue foam pad 1000 RPM do not use any downward machine pressure and maintain a fast linear motion

Jon,

You may also want to consider taping over any hard to clean areas such as the front seam of the door, around window trim etc. This will be especially important if it's your first time and you haven't had a great deal of experience with a RO.

Be sure to spread the polish on the paint before turning on the RO, this will help reduce slinging.

Good luck and post some pics.

I totally agree on the tape-

Painter’s Tape (Masking Tape):
Mask-off trim around the windshield, moon roof, back window, around side windows, badges, and door handles and any bodywork edges and joints as well as vinyl trim, using Painter's Mate Green® brand masking tape; this tape is for delicate surfaces, it removes cleanly from a paint film or glass surface without adhesive transfer or surface damage for up to 8 days - even when exposed to direct sunlight.

3M Painters Tape – Part number 2060 (high adhesion) 2080 (low to medium adhesion) 2090 (medium adhesion)

Remove by trying to keep to a somewhat horizontal plane don’t pull directly upwards. It is a medium adhesion tape with a flexible crepe backing allows for exceptional conformability to semi-smooth surfaces – 3M Painters Tape - http://www.paintersmatetape.com/
