Default Buffing/smoothing curb rash on wheels?

My 18" Carrera III wheels (997 OEM) have a 1.5-2" bit of curb rash. If this were something that cost less, I would experiment by getting out my Dremmel and carefully grinding down that area to be smooth and thus much less visible. Currently, it's rough and it grabs and holds brake dust, so it stands out a bit.

Has anyone done something like this? Is it possible as a DIY?
