Default 964 with no clear coat...change routine?

First post on concours ... please bear with me:

I have a 1989 guards red C4. I'm told this is the only color made (about this time) without clear coat.

Yesterday I washed, clayed, polished and waxed by hand. Car looks good, lots of work! I used Meguires 3 step products.

I am left with two questions:
1. Should I change my routine because of no clear coat? (get some red on towels after polish step).

2. Lots of work by hand. What tool to buy? (Makita 9227C)

Thanks! Oh car is not a daily driver and clay (my 1st use ever) didn't pick up much debris.

The clay will pick up stuff and not show it per se...you can put a plastic baggie over your hand and run it over the paint and will feel the contaminant. As for the meguiars stuff, I like it a lot, although I use their pro line with a porter cable 7424 and meguiar's softbuff pads. You can check out meguiarsonline.com/forums to see a lot of info, and I order most of my products from autodetailingsolutions.com The solid color porsches are not clearcoated, the metallics are-my 968 is single stage as well. Good luck, and happy detailing!

Steve
