Default 3M Perfect-It Cleaner Clay, 38070, 200 g

Couple of questions:

I have used this clay bar without issue in the past, but recently used a bar with Meguiar's D15501 Last Touch Spray Detailer as lubricant and it scratched and marred the paint ... I don't know if this was just an older bar (IT WAS NOT OPENED, but had been in the drawer for probably 2 years (last of a batch) ... I have bought some from Amazon that is lighter blue and some darker blue, all the same part #

-- has any one else had issues with this product?

-- is there a clay bar that is better recommended?

-- would that detail spray not provide enough lubricity?

Thanks in advance

Not sure about either product, however, in my experience, you probably didn't use enough lubrication or possibly didn't have the surface as clean as you could before you clay barred it.

It is remotely possible that the clay bar could have been wonky somehow.

Go through your process and get some polish and work on the mars and scratches and hopefully they will come out!

EDIT: I use Autoscrub Nanoskin instead of clay bars anymore. For what it is worth.

I also have no experience with that clay or that detail spray. But I also second the nanoskin auto scrub. Have been using it for 5+ years. Works great. I still use clay in certain instances. Any of them should be fine.

All clay bars will cause some marring, scratches could be from clay not being folded/kneaded frequently. If you want to reduce marring use a iron/fallout remover before claying, it will chemically remove iron & fallout surface bonded contaminates. This will reduce the contaminates on paint surface for the clay bar to remove, reducing marring & speeding up the claying process.

i guess while we are on the subject, and sticking with clay bars, what brand bar/lubricant is most liked? (or is this just an opinion and they all do the same thing?)

I've always used soap for claying

I treat my pickup once a year - there's a very good / inexpensive wash nearby
then I hand wash, paying special attention to the roof

then clay bar with a small amount of soap, say 1/2 a cup +
Meguiars in the purple jug

at this point you have to be ready to apply a polish or sealant, for a very
long time I've used PoorBoys Polish & Sealant

buff it on - wipe it off

911 is about the same - just omit the car wash

I'm with Fracture, I just use my car normal wash product (Meguiar's Soft Wash Gel) mixed at higher concentration applied from foam sprayer/sprayer/squeezed from sponge. You can use pretty much any wash as they they all basically lubricate dirt off your paint.

Are you using the nanoskin on a DA or doing it by hand?
