955/957 Cayenne DIY: Front Rotors and Pads

I ran for years on drilled rotors on my 955 with no issues
Mine were zimmermans
Mine were zimmermans
As this thread continues I thought not to start a new one about Pads & Rotors.
I am considering replacing the rotors and pads (front and rear) with drilled ones from R1concepts:
http://www.r1concepts.com/detail/pro...ayenne/Turbo:/
Does anyone has experience with them or generally with Drilled rotors? I have heard of some cases where the drilled rotors crack due to excessive vehicle weight. Is it true or another mechanic fantasy story?
Otherwise I will probably stick with OEM.

Some companies will sell a drilled rotor that was designed to be drilled from the beginning. Brembo, for example. But, no way would I ever run a rotor from an unknown company.
Plenty of information out on the web about this.
My wife's rotors looked just like this.

I need help changing pads for my MY08 CTT with the 368mm front rotors. I have unbolted the two 21mm hex bolts for the caliper. I'm stuck at this point.. what step is next? There is no guide pin that is visible to me. I tried pulling caliper, but it will not budge...
Newbie to the site. I've got a 2007 CTT, Mk11, which i believe was introduced in 2008 in the states. The 368 fronts, or in other words a complete pain in the A$$ to get parts. I've done the front Rotors and Pads, but having loads of trouble on the rear as i can't get the Triple Squares to fit. I have XZN's 14mm and 16mm, but neither fit. I have noticed that others have mentioned a 15mm (T15), but for the life of me I can't find this in the UK or Europe at all. Does it exist?

To the Op, you need to change your title as you didn't change the rotors. How can this be a rotor and pad DIY without a rotor change?

Hey guys .... my brake light came on my 2008 GTS ... questions
1. how much longer before I have to change the pads/rotors/sensors? - I drive about 10 miles to/from work ... and don't really ride the brakes a lot
2. can something like Durametric cable tell while wheel set off the sensor?
3. any recommended brake kits? ... I have a DIY garage yourself place about 30 minutes away, they charge about $25 per hour or $200 for the day, which includes the lift rental and use of air tools

If you got the light, then the sensor is already done. You will need to replace it. Which one? I am unsure if a durametric will tell you, perhaps, someone who has the tool can confirm that for you.
I purchased zimmerman rotors and pads (can't remember branch) from Pelican parts. Does the DIY place have those triple square bits? You will need it to remove the little screw that holds the rotor. I was not able to loosen the front caliper bolt so, I got the front rotors replaced by the dealership. Also, that bolt requires > 200 lb/ft of torque and I do not have a torque wrench for that high number. Oh, that pin that holds the brake pads in place can be a pain to come out. Just make sure it is clean.
Good luck...

Thanks! I did notice the Torque wrench requirement and the triple square bits. T30, T40, T50?
I'm guessing a good spray down on those bolt with some WD40 or other penetrating spray may help loosen those bolts?
I was pricing some Brembo parts in Amazon ... they have Front set of Ceramic pads & the sensor wires for $97 .... the UV coated Brembo front rotors are a bit more than other brands, about $130 each .... a pair of the Brembo slotted are about $392 pair
I'm just thinking in case of these GTS ... if it's just best to pay more and go with Brembo ... I've read about other brands on various threads here .... but has anyone posted a good comparison throughout the life, not just that they are good the few hundred miles?
I'd rather pay $132 for rotors that will last 40K miles versus $80 rotors that last only 20K miles or squeal like a pig
..... and to think I use to change the brakes on my IROC Z-28 when I was young ... it was cheap! and I would get the rotors turned first ... they lasted forever!

I just did this job a week ago.
Warning light had come on 3 weeks prior to that. I only had about 1mm left on one of the rear brake pads. All others had 2-4mm.
I went with the "Basic" kit from ECS Tuning. Uses the platinum Meyle rotors and Bosch Quiet cast pads. I am VERY satisfied. I don't know what was on there before, but it was crap compared to this. I can now brake with much more confidence. No squeaks! Low dust!
Yes, you will need some Torx bits, but you will also need a set of XZN or triple squares. You need a 16mm and a 5mm. PCA did a nice video on it on Youtube.

Never mind .... I did the brakes myself .... I found a local guy that runs a garage-rental business ... he has like 8 bays with lifts, you rent one by the hour or the day .. he provides all needed tools and compressor ... real cool place and great guy ... he even has a dynamometer in house! .... place is called garageyourself

Just did the fronts this past weekend with cross drilled Brembo rotors and Brembo pads:
Front Rotors were down to 32 mm, the minimum recommended thickness:
The 350mm Brembo cross drilled rotors (#33S50213) were more expensive than solid Brembo pieces. I price shopped these through numerous sites to include eBay etc. The price for the pair was $379.60 with free shipping from Import Replacement Parts through Amazon. The next "closest" price I could find was $425 for the pair:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I painted the sides of the rotor hats with Krylon Rust Tough semi flat black enamel. I also painted the outside rim of the discs and the rotor vanes from the outside and inside of the disc:
Pads are Brembo (#P85065N), price for a set which includes new sensors, was $81.56 through newpart.com:
http://www.new-part.com/product/new-...LAYaAhrJ8P8HAQ
Swapped out the stock 21" wheels for a set of 22" reps I had recently picked up before bolting everything back up so here's the end result:
Total price for the parts was $461.16. The rotors and pads I used also fit the VW Touareg and Audi Q7 and you'll likely find lower prices when they're listed as such. I did find a few sites online where the price was higher when you used the words "Porsche" and Cayenne" in the search. Ahh......the "Porsche Tax"
When reassembling everything we used anti seize lube on all the threads. (spend the $4 for a tube, you'll be VERY thankful next time around)
I did not replace the caliper hardware. a good wire brushing was all that was needed to clean off accumulated dust and crud. We also bead blasted the lug bolts while we had them off the car. Washed with dish soap and water, dried them off and hit the heads with two coats of Krylon. Baked in the oven at 225 degrees for 30 mins. Once they cooled we reinstalled them and torqued to spec using a 19mm socket with duct tape on the inside so as not to scratch the new paint. I've changed brakes on numerous vehicles over the past 30 years and this was very simple and straightforward.

I know this thread is from 2009, but wanted to thank the OP and everybody else that added info. I would like to add some additional info from my experience changing the pads and rotors on a 2008 Turbo.
For the 2008 Turbo with the red calipers (368mm front/358mm rear):
• The pads are bottom mounted. There is NO RETAINING PIN holding the pads from the top. The spring plates are under-mount also. Proceed to removing the calipers from the rotor.
• When the pads are removed from the bottom, the spring plates may fall out. This is the time to replace them if you choose to do so.
• The backing plates will also fall out of the calipers when the pads are removed. You may clean, re-grease, re-use.
• The retaining screw for the front rotor is T47.
Good luck!

2009 Cayenne base Front Rotor repalcement
I went to do my brakes on an 09 Cayenne base and seem to have issues with the replacement rotor which are EBC rotors. Are the rotors supposed to be friction fit? The ones that are currently on slip on and off without issue. The new ones are not going on all the way. I can see a small gap between the rotor and lug hole except where the bolt is that holds the rotor to hub it seems to pull it tight to the hub. With that, it makes it impossible to mount the caliper - The pins for the pads are hitting the rotor making it cockeyed. I went ahead and mounted the tire and sungged up the bolts then removed it. The rotor was on there tight, but still looked it could be pushed on more - At this point I still could not get the caliper back on. I have taken it back off and put the old one back on. Is this normal or the EBC rotor out of spec, perhaps?
Thanks in advance
