Default Can the Turbo GT be aligned at any shop?

Hello guys,

I may need to align my 24 TGT but would prefer to
do my local shop, are there any considerations that only the dealer can Align these? Like RWS or connecting piwis for alignment?

Or can it be done by anybody and just hit the numbers ?

Anyone happen to have alignment specs?

Thanks!
JC

It's best to have it done at a Porsche dealership. Your new car is under warranty, so there's no point in risking an independent garage doing it wrong.

The Cayenne TGT is a high-performance car packed with electronics, and incorrect alignment can affect the operation of some systems, not to mention the car's handling.

Besides, independent garages may not have the full specifications for this model.

Exactly. And should your independent do it and there is a problem, your fault, Porsche's fault, your independent's fault, nobody's fault, guess who could be on the hook for anything that could be turbo related? Ask me how I know this.

i had an independent shop do the alignment on my 23 TGT and they probably did a better job than a typical Porsche dealer. In my experience most dealers are happy to have all the numbers “green”; a good specialist looks to achieve symmetry where possible.

Thanks… was any computer stuff necessary? Like calibrating zero point steering wheel?

I’d be going to a specialist, someone that does alignments on all types of performance cars. Dealership alignments will be like oil changes - least experienced tech that can get all green as stated above.

But I only use a dealer for warranty work, never for performance or upgrades (luckily only 1 visit to a dealer in 5 years for the free 10k mile service).

For my Base, I use Firestone - cheap and effective (but not a TGT!).

Just go to a shop that uses Hunter Engineering setup for alignment. Ensure the tech is an experienced one. I got mine done at an Indy by the owner himself.

Thank you… I like to analyze the specs first for maybe a bit if customization… happen to have your alignment printout?

I don’t save the printout but had posted it on some thread. It’s all computerized, they enter your model and the specs automatically pop up. The specs are in a range but a good tech will configure it at the absolute midpoint for a prefect alignment.

Check them out on YouTube.

This. Based upon my experience, I concur that most dealers are looking for green and that's about it. My Porsche indy is extremely particular regarding the final alignment settings. If you can find a good performance alignment specialist you can almost be assured of a better alignment there.

I'm always wary of any interference from independent garages as long as the car is under warranty. If a major warranty repair is necessary, car manufacturers typically verify that all previous repairs and services were performed by authorized by them garages. They're simply looking for an excuse to charge the car owner for the repair costs.

Apart from the rear camber and front toe settings there is no further adjustments available on the "normal" Coupe , has the TGT got multi adjustable components ??

If there are only two adjustments available then i am sure any decent alignment centre should be able to deal with it.

This isn’t accurate for the Cayenne. The Cayenne has full independent suspension front and rear, so you typically have camber, caster, and toe adjustable up front, and camber and toe in the rear — all four corners. This might apply to a different Porsche platform, but worth correcting here since someone might take it at face value before heading to their alignment shop.
