Just drive the car at normal speeds and with the right gauge in the engine/oil temp screen, push the ball on the right spoke, scroll down to oil and press it again and voila, that is your oil level. But, you might want to try it several times over a day or so as the first reading you get, if not repeated over a day or two, might not be reliable. In other words, don't assume you are down a litre with your first reading and then add a litre. Try the measurement over a couple of day and when you consistently see it is down a litre add one, otherwise you might overfill the oil.

Yes, with these electronic systems I would add about 1/2 what it tells you to add and then check again then later. You really don't want to overfill.

When I do an oil change I add about 1 quart less than required, check and then slowly add more until at max.

So this is my gauge. As long as I’m above minimum I’m ok?

yes, ur nearly at the max line. the car won’t prompt you to add oil until it goes to the min line. if you are half way between and want to top it off, the easy thing to do is to just go by the dealer. they will top it off for you for free. or try to get you to ignore it. depends on if you get someone lazy or not.

Just get a C20 0w-20 mobil 1 and put a little bit and check? Going to dealer feels like quite an ordeal even for a top off

i get that. but the electronic gauge isn’t accurate and doesn’t update right away. mine was 2/3 of the way down between the two marks. i changed the oil, the full 8 qts. came out. i added 8 qts. and initially it showed at about 50%. then a couple days later it was at 87%.

dealer did one oil change and got it right to the max mark. the next time they didn’t - it was at 60%. the paper work said they added 9qts. i went back and they said they added a little more and reset it and it still wasn’t at the max mark. then i complained again and they told me it didn’t matter. i simply want it at the max mark after the oil change. so my plan has been to go back in on a day that the guy who did the initial oil change is there, who did get it on the max mark, and ask him to top it off and talk to him. because if porsche says it takes 8 qts of oil, but it really takes more to get it to the max mark, i would like to know. w the last oil change the dealer added over 9 qts, and it still isn’t at the max mark.

I tend to do half way through, then after a bit of driving add more if needed. Being at the max risks it going over due to condensation etc I suppose. That's what I wanted to avoid.

When I change my oil on the 997 or my previous Macan's (I'll be doing the Cayenne in the next few weeks) my sweet spot is 1 mark down from max fill. I will leave it like that until my next gas station stop after a longer drive and check/adjust level as needed. Hardest thing for me to do is to remember to check the oil before I start the car (except the 997, it wants the engine running).

C20 0W20 for 3.0L, C30 0W30 for 2.9L, and C40 0W40 for 4.0L.
