Out of state seller claims that this phone mount will remove easily without damage to dash or leaving mark/discoloration/residue. But won't do it prior to sale. Anybody recognize this mount and have any experience with removing it? Or general thoughts on whether it will damage/leave a mark?

firstly, i would have them leave it. wait till u get the car. i could see someone jacking it up very easily. i would use heat to get it warm, then very gently try to get it to come up. if no success take it to a good detailer. you don’t want to jack up the leather dash. if u have them remove it - sure it may come off clean, also they may scuff the area around it trying to get it off. some of the adhesives can be quite stubborn. i would get a link to the product. if it is a good company they may be able to tell u what kind of adhesive they use. if it is just some chinese deal, you wont ever know.

I'd ask the seller to do this. Let him bear the risk of any damage. By heating it, you also heat the adhesive that attaches the leather cover to the dashboard. Therefore, there's a risk that the leather will separate from the dashboard in this area or even stretch.
I agree with Retom on the approach. There’s a real risk of damaging the dash here. Have the seller remove it before selling the car. I know you said he won’t do it, but that’s exactly what I’d insist on or I’d walk away. No way I’d buy a car with avoidable leather damage right up front.

occasionally my fiancé will set something on the dash, like a sheet of paper. of sun glasses - i always have her remove it right away. the dash is an area i prefer be left clear. i did make an exception for my porsche air diffuser which is mounted to the top dash vents:

Sure it will. That is why he is so scared to do it BEFORE the sale. The questions are simple:
1. Are you willing to leave that mount there till you sell the car or buy a new dash? If so, proceed to question 2
2. Can you find another one just in case this one gets damaged and you have to replace it to cover the mark?
I suggest that the OP move on and find another Cayenne if he doesn't want to accept this one with the phone mount on the dashboard. The seller will likely sell this Cayenne to someone who doesn't care.

Even if I ignored the phone mount, that the seller is so willing to tell me such a lie that even he doesn't believe it himself makes me wonder about how he represented the car.

Well if that is your perception, then move on and find another Cayenne. The seller will find someone else to buy this Cayenne under his terms. I've sold almost all the vehicles my wife and I've owned and no longer want during nearly 60 years. It's always been take it leave it. I dictate the terms - not the buyer.

I've moved on many a car where I don't feel comfortable with the seller, private or company. I have never been so hard up for a commodity that I am willing to let a seller run the show. Some things are negotiable but some are not. The times I have bent on red line issues I have regretted. I have not had any "one of a kind" items so there is always several options I am pursuing at any given time so I don't have to be desperate enough to gloss over deal breaker issues.

Can you explain? I have sold cars, private party over the last 20 some years. Never once have I ever felt like I had total control of the situation. Certainly, I could make certain rules like how I was paid but at the end of the day, if I wanted to move it, there was going to be some "Give" for some issues.
For example, this lady was asking more than what I would pay for it retail. I asked her why I would pay more than what I could get it for at the dealer with more recourse. Seems like her BF told her that was what it was worth. I passed. How did she run that show? Several weeks later the price cam down more and more till it was about what private party price was before it sold.

Car dealerships are a joke. 9/10 of them act like they're God Gift's to earth. Meanwhile they sell cars, we own them/ drive them. Theres a HUGE difference.
