Default HOLD function

Does anyone love the "HOLD" function as much as I do?

Yes, but I wish Porsche would implement what other manufactures like BMW have done. For example, in our X5, you simply take your foot off the brake from a stop and the hold function is auto-engaged. No need to push the brake in.

in the case of a hill it is automatic like u describe. in the case of maneuvering in a tight garage the auto hold engage could be annoying.

Yes, but you can just press a button to turn off the hold function. I also agree that the Auto Hold function in BMW and Audi is much more convenient.

I hate auto hold. I'd rather have the hold function require the foot push because in my use, hold would grab before I really wanted it to activate.

Had it do this to my Boxster once and I poor man launched right into traffic since I wasn’t expecting it and throttled sharply.

Sadly, my wife did the same thing when our Cayenne was brand new, coming for an X5 with true auto-hold.

I wonder, in which make/model did you have this experience with? I live in Chicago where parking is always impossible and never once did auto-hold on the X5 impede my ability to maneuver. Garages, parallel spots, tight lots, it never mattered.

Love? I take it for granted. Yes it's handy. Toyota implemented it in the early 2000's. It works exactly the same way on our 2012 Prius and on the 2014 Sienna that the 2022 Cayenne replaced.

MB and Porsche HOLD are the same; they require stabbing the brake pedal because they are activated by brake fluid pressure rise acceleration.

BMW and Honda are the same; they activate automatically after pressing a button.

In order of preference:

Porsche: nice implementation of the pedal-stab actuation, smooth apply and smooth release
Honda: nice implementation of the button-style actuation, smooth release
MB: too firm of a pedal stab required to apply and too grabby on release
BMW: too grabby on apply and too firm and delayed on release

Next time you are in a rental vehicle of any brand, try pressing the brake pedal down extra firmly when stopped. I've been surprised at how many vehicles of various brands have a hill hold feature.

Coming from a BMW, I much prefer the Porsche style.

This is why I love Rennlist. I thought I’d read the user manual from cover to cover but still didn’t know about the foot-operated hold function. Tried it today. Brilliant! Much better than my old X3 which required heavy pumping of the brake pedal.
