low on road camaraderie
my girlfriend has noticed there’s virtually no reciprocity between porsche drivers on the road. never a look, or wave, or extending the courtesy of letting you merge in.
other cars brands i have had, you will see brand friendly behavior…audi. bmw. vw. but apparently not w porsche.
has anyone else noticed this? i think it is sad.

Agree with Gus22. We in this forum tend to be enthusiasts. The Cayenne is a Sport (and) Utility Vehicle. We view it as sporty and value the driving experience and camaraderie of other fellow enthusiasts.
Most others see it as a fancy utility vehicle to haul the kids to soccer practice.
Similar thing with the Jeep community. We nearly always “Jeep Wave” and sometimes give rubber ducks to each other. That is, only if you drive a Wrangler. Cherokees and Wagoneers are the Jeep equivalent of the Cayenne. They get no love.

A Cayenne isn't really an enthusiast vehicle. It is a family hauler (AKA mini van) and I wouldn't expect other people driving a family hauler to wave. Also, I don't think those folks driving "real" Porsches have any specific desire to wave to those driving the family haulers.

Agree completely. When I’m in my 911, I constantly get waves from other Porsche sports car drivers.

Interesting. I've noticed this too. This is my 1st Porsche and I thought I'd wave to Porsche drivers as there aren't a lot of them here in Southern Oregon (no dealers closer than a 4 hours drive). Never got a wave back. I am driving the same Carrera white color/year/model Cayenne as @ThomasWShea (as he has excellent taste), and I am also in the Pacific Northwest so we're passing the same population.
Next month I'll have a bright blue 911 to drive as well, so I will be able to conduct a scientifically controlled A/B experiment as to whether Cayenne's just aren't cool enough to Porsche "sports sedan" owners to warrant a wave back, or if Porsche drivers in the PNW are just not that friendly.

If I take the Cayenne to a cars and coffee I park in the general attendee lot. Take the Boxster it’s front and center at the show. Not that long ago Boxsters wasn’t overly accepted by the 911 group. That seems to have changed over time especially with the addition of the GT4s and Spiders. Maybe over time the 4 door Porsche vehicles will be more loved by the sports car group. If it wasn’t for all the non911 models over the years would Porsche still be around?

No real camaraderie among newer car SUV owners....as others noted, it's a family hauler for most. It's a GREAT family hauler, but thats what it is and it blends in. Driving my 993 in the other hand is totally different experience, getting waves from pcar owners/enthusiasts of all model types from 911 to Cayennes. 993 gets waves from all types of car enthusiasts of all makes. I also have an old Mercedes SL that gets more waves than the 993. I have a G Wagon that gets the occasional wave, head nod, thumbs up. If I want to go stealth and unnoticed to a meeting for work, I borrow my wife's Cayenne. Understated sportiness and elegance.

Absolutely! Shine it up and show it off; your Cayenne is a Porsche, after all. Folks at a Cars & Coffee might not wave at you, but will appreciate you showing up.

I have a BMW M4 that I go to cars and coffee events with. Often see X5M (closest Cayenne equivalent) there and they are always welcome. Actually they get a reasonable amount of attention. I go to a number of track days with the M4. A lot of Porsche guys there. Can't imagine they would snub me if I showed up in my Cayenne GTS with the rear wheel steering and PDCC. I think it would be fun to take on the track. I think most at cars and coffee events are enthusiasts and they welcome fellow enthusiasts regardless of what they drive.
