Default 2019 Cayenne S engine ticking noise

Hey guys,

I’m new to this forum and new to Porsche.

I recently bought a used approved Cayenne S from the dealership and I noticed a prominent ticking noise from the engine.

Should I be worried??

Describe the tick, or put up a vid.

B58 is direct injection as is the EA839 2.9TTV6 in the Cayenne S. Ticking is commonly from the HPFP or injectors.

Do you have the view that the X3 M40i had a ticking sound? I had a W166 GLE350 with M276 V6 that had quite loud ticking from the injectors - normal.

Also had an X3 with B48 2.0L 4-cylinder direct injection, it made a ticking noise but not very loud. Maybe BMW does a better job at reducing noise creation and transmission than MB and Porsche.

I don’t think the M40i had a ticking sound. I’m not the only one that’s noticed. A friend and my brother both made comments about it on separate occasions. I think the fact that I don’t have the PSE exhaust the engine noise is a lot more prominent ? FYI I posted a video on the thread

My B58 engine in my four series is silent with no ticking.

The Audi V6 had an issue with the needle bearings in the rocker arms , these were updated to the larger ones from 2019 ish , i checked mine with a borescope and luckily i have the updated ones.

When they fail , they cause much ticking and lightening of your wallet.

Good photo. How did you gain access to photograph the rollers? Where did the endoscope enter?

Through the oil filler cap on the RHS rocker cover.

Remove the airbox , remove the flexi oil fill pipe from the rocker cover , insert the scope down and to the front of the engine.

The scope i used has a triple camera so i scrolled through the cameras until i got the best pic.

Something less to be concerned about.

Thanks. This weekend I removed the filler snorkel and visually looked inside with a bright led flashlight and could not see the rollers. Endoscope camera had a better vantage point.
