cayenne is the lazy man’s porsche.
door pull, elbow level. seats, *** level. loading, little to no bending. tailgate, release slightly lower than the 2023 version and i have seen ppl comment that they prefer to not reach down just that small bit to release it, even tho they could click a button on the key - but alas getting the key out of their pocket is harder than the slight bend down to release the hatch.
so, a dash lever that frees up valuable console space for more convenience? shouldn’t be a shocker that the cayenne crowd is okay w it.
i like the look of a center gear selector, but this wussification now days is the new normal - and since it isn’t a manual tranny anyway, the center gear selector was just a wishful thinking std. transmission look - so we might as well take the functional space gain of dash located selector. buy the magnetic shifter and you will feel cool again, they click & clack so nicely! you’ll forget about the dash gear selector.

Agreed. My 911 is for fun. My cayenne has a damn stroller in it, groceries, baby car seat. It’s practical and still more fun than most practical vehicles. Who cares where the gear selector is. We aren’t tracking these things.

I don't understand what you mean by that but two vehicles I actually considered before buying the Cayenne in 2022 were a BMW X7 SUV and a Mercedes S500 sedan. I was torn between buying a vehicle my wife preferred to ride in vs. buying a vehicle I preferred to drive. The X7 idea died when a BMW dealership salesman couldn't answer basic questions and wasn't interested in researching. The S500 idea died when I learned that ordered S500 were typically arriving without all ordered features - same as what was going on with the Panamera when I got an allocation for one in August 2022. I bought the in-stock Cayenne to get the critical features but the vehicle I really wanted was the Panamera..
The location of the gear selector is only a preference. I'm not fond of the console mounted gear shift on my 2022 Cayenne but it's not as if I hate it. I'd rather it be on the steering column or dashboard so that I wouldn't have to avert my eyes and move my right hand as far to shift. I might not have this preference if I wasn't used to vehicles that have their gear shifts on their dashboards.

better steering, better transmission shifting, just drives better.
i was originally waiting for an audi, after i drove the cayenne, it was clearly better. i was immediately over the audi. tho i still have a soft spot for audi, porsche is a bit better from a driving perspective.

It looks like the cayenne owners are in a totally different category than the traditional 911 Porsche people. Some of these comments here are pretty eye opening. I bet you guys like EVs too.

It's called horses for courses, otherwise known as "intended use case". I've owned two 911's and enjoyed them immensely. At the same time, I have also owned (and continue to own) two Cayennes. Did I expect them to do the same thing? Not at all. Why would I buy a Cayenne then? By your thinking, should I have purchased another 911 just to have as a second car?
Why would I need my Cayenne to be exactly like my 911's were? That's called "pretending to be something you're not". Seriously, stop with the stereotyping and shaming, it's just ridiculous. Cayenne is an SUV. It's not trying to be a sports car. In my case, I purchased a Cayenne for our family use as it drives the most Porsche like of all the SUV's I tested. But at no time did I expect it to perform the same as my 911.

Find that little toggle in an emergency direction shift in a parking lot without looking….never. Solving a problem that wasn’t there and another cheap cost cutting move.

Whats next, remove the brake pedal and make it a button on the steering wheel?
