Engine Oil - Can I use A40 instead of C20 on base 3.0L?
Hello
So I've been trying for a week now and simply could not find a C20 0w-20 approved oil, it just doesn't exist where I live.
Would it be fine if I use an A40 approved oil (0w-40) such as the Mobil 1 A40 ?
Is C30 available? I use Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 on the 2.9TTV6.
No, but I haven’t looked for it as hard as the A40, since the latter only was mentioned in the manual for the base, although not sure what “Others” mean.

then it goes on to list the Cayenne S, Turbo and E-hybrid models.
Does this mean the A40 is a suggested alternative? I could not find a definite answer for this yet.
Thanks,
Don't use A040 for the 3.0 liter base engine. Use either C20 or C30 (2.9 liter twin turbo). My US manual does not mention A040. I use A040 (0w-40) in my 2006 911. The C20 and C30 spec oils have special additives for keeping the emissions system working and also for direct inject engines.

yeah the oil will be available if the car was available because worst case you could get it at the dealer. autozone has the correct oil too, and I am sure they ship anywhere in the U.S. do not use oil that isn’t specified for the engine in your porsche. the C20 is a very thin oil that i have read thickens at temp which is counter intuitive.
OK I should've stated that I am not based in the U.S, I'm in the GCC.
attached is a picture from the manual, I've translated the important parts, you can easily check the corresponding suggested oil type.
A40 is listed for the base cayenne as under the non-Euro6 type of cars, whatever that means, which makes me lean towards it's mainly targeting the emissions, nothing more.
I'm wondering if other US/Euro manuals are the same? or it is just us ?
and I should add, the dealer doesn't sell the oil , you may guess how much they charge for an oil change
meanwhile I'm checking Audi/VW dealerships tomorrow to see if I can find a VW 508 00 oil
Did you try looking for MAG PRIMA ENVO FORMULA FE 0W20? The attached Porsche Approved C-20 Oils specifically states it is available in the Middle East. It lists a total of 25 different approved oils.
I’ve also attached an extensive list of VAG approved 50800 / 50900 Oils. You might have better luck finding one of these oils It contains over 180 approved oils.

hum, in this case, set aside the manual, open ur hood there will be a sticker. i assume they set the car up to run oil a person can get in that region - otherwise how would the dealers service and keep their cars under warranty.
you can always get the proper oil shipped in. i was on the audi forum and there was a guy in africa with no dealers in his country or anywhere even remotely close - he bought his oil in bulk as well as all other parts from the US and had it all shipped in.

I have been using this weight as well, no oil burn issue and engine idles very well.
A local Indy recommended 5w-40 which I used for 3K miles but throttle felt heavy and sluggish.
I hope you're kidding. 0W-40 & 5W-40 vs. 0W-20 made the throttle feel heavy and sluggish? Unless you live in the Arctic or in extreme cold climate, which you don't, you will not experience "heavy and sluggish throttle". You might want to get your car checked out for other issues.
