Push her towards the Macan EV that's coming. I'm sure it will accept a tow hitch.

I am afraid that e-Macan will in USA not earlier than in 2025.

Yeah, theres no question that the GLS AMG has got the performance goods, but I just cant get my head around the look of it. It’s not like the X7 is a whole lot better, but the GLS looks so much more bland than the X7. TBH, I don’t need 0-60 in 3.5s in a 7-seat SUV (although I WILL miss that straight-line speed when I give up Cayenne Turbo!), but I can always scratch that itch with my 911 Turbo S. I did look at it, but I’ve set it aside as Ive never really been a Mercedes guy.

Good point Pushinit. On paper, it certainly ticks all the boxes, EXCEPT for the fact that my wife has been driving Q7’s since 2014 and I just can’t force myself to buy an SQ7 for what will be my DD for ~6 months a year. I know that sounds stupid, but it’s my own stupid

BTW, Q7 will have a small facelifting this year and in 2025 new Q7 should be presented probably as MY2026.

what if you kept the Turbo and got a cheap minivan that doesn't get used outside of the 5 times a year you need 7 seats

First off, my wife is NOT a car nut, but she happily supports me in my car nuttiness. I have a deal with her that I get to keep any 3 cars I want with no judgement as long as she gets to drive what wants. So at the moment, that means I get to keep my 1968 911 L (family jewel and finally completed full restoration), my 2023 911 Turbo S Cab (a RIDICULOUSLY fun summer car), and my 2019 Cayenne Turbo (for winter duty and general truck-stuff). Over the last 10 years, she has happily driven multiple Audi Q7’s with a tow hitch which serves as her daily as well as our default boat and snowmobile hauler. HOWEVER, she announced last week that she doesn’t want to drive the 7-seater ICE car anymore and wants a smaller car which is at least a hybrid if not a full EV. That means the days of her driving the big car with the hitch are over, and that means a change in my third car to a non-Porsche ride with different needs.

With no tow hitch on the 2019 Cayenne Turbo and only 5 seats, that means I will have to swap out this car for a new 7-seater tow machine that I will drive as she swaps into a smaller Hybrid/EV. Given that I daily drive my Cayenne from November to April with the 911’s in storage, I want something that I will still enjoy driving in a bigger package than what I have now. So I am looking at giving up the fast and sporty features of my cayenne Turbo for a larger (need 7 seats), smoother riding - but still fun - SUV. So I have started to look at both the new BMW X7 60i as well as the new Range Rover. Neither is remotely a replacement for my Cayenne Turbo, but my SUV needs are different now and I am trying to accept the fact that I just won’t be able to get this answer my from Cayenne Turbo anymore.

On the one hand, I’m loving the refreshed look, ride quality and updated tech of the new Range Rover, but I’m terrified of the historic build quality. On the other hand, I Ike the sportiness of the X7 60i, but at the end of the day, it’s still a BMW. Neither one of these cars will get me anything close to what I have now, but that ship sailed with my wife’s new plans for a smaller Hybrid/EV. So if you’re in my shoes, what would you guys do? It’s not an optimal situation, so I’d really appreciate any thoughts you guys have on the X7 60i versus the Range Rover given my new reality!
Given the change in your car needs, consider the new BMW X7 60i for a balance of sportiness and functionality. While the Range Rover offers a refreshed look and ride quality, concerns about historic build quality may be a factor. Prioritize your enjoyment and practicality in the new SUV while adjusting to the evolving situation.

Yeah, I think that's my path... I've got a test drive on Saturday in an X7 60i with the full M spec (which is close to my current build) since I have so far only driven the 40i in a very boring build (it was a rental car in Virginia a few months ago).

And to further push me that direction, I just got off the phone with a RR Dealer here in Chicago who quoted me their price for a new (but sitting on their lot) Range Rover P530 (with the BMW V8 engine). With an MSRP of $144k (already high), they're asking for an additional $20k "Price Adjustment" (ADM by another lame name) for a $166k price for a dealer-spec car! I was gob smacked. I can get this fully loaded X60i with the NEW M-built V8 at 5% UNDER MSRP and a custom build that will deliver in 2 months. So I can either pay $166k with an ADM for the RR or $110k for the X60i where there is not reason in the world for a $56k difference between these cars.

Who on earth is paying these kind of prices for a non-special 7-seat SUV??

My buddy has an Alpina XB7.... Total beast.... If you can stomach a pre-owned one, they've depreciated below $100k.

Default Well, I Pulled the Trigger Today

After a test drive and a hassle-free negotiation with a Chicago area BMW Dealer, I pulled the trigger on a new build for a 2024 BMW X7 M60i at 4.25% below MSRP 👍. Its a fully loaded build and there are no stop sales so I am getting everything I want in this car. While it is definitely NOT a direct replacement for my 2019 Cayenne Turbo, this will be the best - and most fun - car that suits my new needs.

Since X7s are manufactured in South Carolina the car will only take 39 days from the acceptance of the build to delivery, which is a vast improvement over the 4+ months it took for my ‘23 911 Turbo S to be built and delivered to Chicago last year. So all in, I get a new build delivered in less than 2 months at under MSRP so overall I’m feeling good about where I landed in this, particularly when Range River wanted $50k more and 6 months longer for a car with less performance and reliability!

Thanks for all the input and suggestions, so I have to get ready for sell my Cayenne Turbo 😩

Congrats on finding a solution...sometimes the answer we seek is not 100% what we want but in the end it usually works out for the better or how it should somehow. Enjoy and keep up posted on the differences between the two when your car arrives and its production journey.

Suggest Performance Center Delivery. Pretty fun from what I hear.

It's no Cayenne Turbo for sure. But should be enjoyable nonetheless.

Thanks Md. This X7 M60i can’t - and won’t - be able to give me the same driving experience as my Cayenne Turbo, but it is the best compromise that ticks the majority of my boxes. This will be spacious, comfortable, and fun (enough) as my winter DD, tow rig and family hauler, and I’ll just have to get my driving thrills from my 911 Turbo S

More importantly, this satisfies my “Happy Wife = Happy Life” marriage philosophy, so I’ll take that for the win!
