Sorry, probably already answered some where?!
Can PCM on 2021 Cayenne be upgraded to PCM 6? As part of the general update pushed last year.
thanks

AFAIK there is no upgrade from PCM 5 to PMC 6 - other than purchasing a PCM 6 vehicle - they are different hardware platforms - and different in car components - not just software.Originally Posted by Vfr750

Agree with daveo4porsche. These are complex, interconnected systems using multiple types of data busses. The days of copper wire and easily swapping out the factory radio with an aftermarket Kenwood head unit are, sadly, long past.
Audi and Porsche use the same hardware for the PCM / MMI. From this Audi document describing the PCM6 and differences from the PCM5:
Three years after the launch of the MIB2+ [PCM5], Audi has brought the third generation [PCM6] of the modular infotainment matrix onto the market.
While the customer may only notice small changes, the system actually represents a significant conceptual advancement. Hardly any of the control units for the infotainment system are the same as in the previous version; with newly externalized functions, new transmission methods and much more, the MIB3 [PCM6] is a new construct, which you will explore in this self-study program.
The biggest problem with upgrade comes from the “newly externalized functions”. PCM5 used a mobile network module and GPS receiver integral to the central computer. PCM6 offloaded those tasks to the emergency call module. Therefore, the LTE and GPS antenna connections are moved to the call module. The module performs all the GPS calculations and then relays the information to the central computer via Ethernet.
Another problem comes from the “new transmission methods”. PCM5 used the MOST audio bus. PCM6 introduced an entirely different audio bus called Automotive Audio Bus (A2B). The two are incompatible.
