Here’s a data point based on our experience:
Ordered base Cayenne May 6. We were told in May no more 2022 models, so ours was a 2023. Initial expected production was June with dealer delivery early July. They only had one allocation, it was a base. If we wanted an S or GTS it would have been several more months. We wanted it sooner than later so we test drove a base, it was fine for our needs, and we ordered. The paint choices were minimal. We prefer light colored SUV and an easy-to-live-with finish like silver. The ONLY two light colors were white and Carrara white. Every other choice was dark. Chalk had been removed. Real bummer but we chose white over Bordeaux/black interior (love it). We had a pearl white over red leather car and loved the combo, and we’ve had silver over red a couple times.
It was manufactured in June. It sat in Emden. Delay after delay. July turned into Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov. Then magically it arrived at the dealer Sept 27, but was missing the Bose amp and unable to be sold. After another SEVEN weeks of waiting , we picked it up Nov. 19. The average delay for the amp is roughly 6 weeks from what I’ve been reading, and what the dealer told me.
In addition to chip shortages, there have been materials shortage, parts shortage, ship shortage, port labor shortage, etc.
We had the front end PPF’d, entire vehicle ceramic coated including wheels and calipers, bought a winter set of wheels/tires which were mounted - all completed before we could take delivery. At least when we brought it home it was ready for us to use.
Based on this experience I’d assume any delivery date could easily be delayed by months.
Ours was built exactly as spec’d including PDLS+ headlights, electronically adjusting steering column, etc. We were lucky it didn’t arrive missing any options - as so many have experienced from reading these threads. We did not order Burmeister, just the regular Bose.
Re PDCC - we just took a long trip through mountains of PA, WV, VA, NC. Hubby would engage PDCC and it made a noticeable difference in flattening out body roll when traveling at “healthy” speeds through the twisties.
We also have a ‘21 Macan GTS built to spec. Personally I prefer smaller vehicles. The Cayenne was more hubby’s pick but also I had placed a demand order for an Audi wagon and they couldn’t tell us if, or when we might get one. After a long wait with zero improvement, the Cayenne build popped up and we took it and cancelled the wagon because we wanted a car sooner. We were adding to the garage after downsizing thinking we could share the Macan - but that wasn’t working out as well as I had hoped. And while the GT4 is used for trips, errands etc in addition to track, I store it in winter months and the Macan was the only car available.. Interesting trivia: the Audi A6 wagon has the same storage as Cayenne (with rear seats folded (60cf).
Personally I find the Macan much sportier and better handling and less like a “boat”. I tend to prefer smaller, and the Macan (for an SUV) handles extremely well. And the GTS has a nice growl. But for its size, the Cayenne is very nice and does the job well. It’ll serve the purpose.
Ours is a somewhat “high” option Cayenne base, but we order what we want and don’t care too much about resale. If we could have built an S or GTS maybe we would have, but waiting more months for a build slot wasn’t appealing, and in hindsight we are very glad we took the build and didn’t wait, as it would likely not have delivered until spring ‘23.
I was also shocked the Cayenne got almost 24mpg on winter tires on the trip. It has less than 1000 miles so still breaking in. Obviously no one buys these SUVs for good mpg, but it was better than expected.

I recently sold a Cayenne S which had no PDCC and bought a Turbo with PDCC. There is a noticeable difference on twisty roads and the body stays flat eliminating any roll. Well worth the $3500 imo.

did the dealer want you to put down a big down payment on that to lock?

I would be surprised if they actually lock that build w/o a significant deposit. The reason is simple, if you walk away, financing falls through etc they are stuck with a car way too over for a stock car. Obviously I wouldn’t say anything but general policy seems to be 1000$ for a slot, $3000 for a build lock and with mine I was almost at 15% down at lock with heavily optioned car

Damn the optional extras on this build are worth 50% value of the car. This is the highest I have ever seen in a build Originally Posted by bearcat2000

I signed on just to vote for the beige interior. I find the other colors too severe for daily driving. We have a '22 Macan with beige, and an incoming '23 Cayenne with beige interior. No roof rails and no tow hitch on the Cayennne for the cleaner lines of the roof and bumper. But we also aren't looking for a sporty looking vehicle.
We also didn't wait for the facelift. Life is too short if you're ready for the car now, and frankly, the facelift videos I have seen don't look different enough that the '23 is going to look "old" in comparison.
Beautiful build!

Thank you! Very anxious to get it. I’m a huge fan of the beige/black interior.Originally Posted by LALTX
