Default So there’s a hole in my muffler…

I happen to look under the car and discovered a tiny hole in the muffler on my 2021 cayenne s with 2600 miles. Is this intentional from the factory for any reason, or cause for concern?

Looks like you got a free GTS exhaust upgrade, nice!

I see 2 holes actually.

That's the new "Super" sports exhaust option. Only $4k to upgrade at your local stealer...

Dealer says it’s for drainage. Anyone else have this hole?

That would be a no I'm pretty certain. He as no others on the lot to show you probably. Also, there is an upstream exhaust leak. This whole area is going to turn black.

Draining your wallet when they repair it? Yup.

What do you mean upstream exhaust leak?

On the muffler, it looks like a factory weep hole to me. The upstream tailpipe connection looks like it has a leak where there should not be one.

Same on ours - one of things I always forget to mention when I take it in.

My PSE looks the same, except with a couple years of crud buildup. Definitely a machined hole in the muffler. It is located in the lowest part of the muffler where a drain would make sense.

My tailpipe also has a leak in the same spot as yours, 911car. Not so sure if that is part of the design. I have a service scheduled in a couple weeks and will ask about it.

Here’s another thread describing the same hole in the muffler.

https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...weep-hole.html

I did some research and found that many, if not most mufflers have a weep hole to drain the acidic condensate. Watch any cold-start video and you will see water vapor and when revving, water drops shooting out the tailpipe. On a normal drive, the muffler will heat up and evaporate the condensate. Short drives will cause water accumulation unless you have a drain hole. Some years ago before manufacturers included them, many people drilled a small hole in the muffler to prevent internal corrosion and prolong the life of the muffler.

Maybe throw a couple of ugga duggas on the clamp, clean it up and see if the carbon comes back. But if it's on the tail pipe side, it's not a big deal.

The hole is normal. I've seen it on other cars too. But what about that upstream leak? It looks non-accidental either, but it's weird to design a leak like that.

I guess those drain holes are a good idea for cars that just drive short trips. I was watching a car show where they were removing the exhaust on a 1967 Chevelle show car. The exhaust pipes and mufflers were full of water.
