Welcome to the forum! You will find there is a diversity of opinion here. I configured our nearly new base 2021 Cayenne (651 miles!) with sport chrono mostly for the steering wheel mode selector. No air suspension nor sport exhaust. Not missing those. The premium package plus is nice and we added ventilated seats and the heated steering wheel for Chicago weather extremes. I drove an S and it was stupid fast but the base with sport Chrono is also very fast and seems to better suit the purpose for us. I drive my 992S manual for real pleasure. The base partial leather interior is fine also. With options sticker was about $85k, and we received a $6k discount off. So far very pleased. The ride is excellent on all roads and highways, lots of power in reserve. Its quiet enough inside and I have no idea why anyone would want a louder sports exhaust on an SUV. I can't imagine not having on my 911 though. My Jeep Wrangler is far more capable off pavement but that's not why we bought the Cayenne. Horses for courses... One more thing, I suggest selecting any of the 21" optional wheels to get the painted fender extensions. It really improves the appearance to my eyes.
Totally agree. We have 19 cayenne base as family car.
Sport Chrono and Pasm is a must on this SUV. PSE - eeh.... only if u have money to waste. Its an SUV!
The other option i love is adaptive cruise. A must have.
I kind of regret not getting automatic high beams, its highly convinient feature if u drive at night. But at the time i got to that option i was so mad at Porsche for extorting $$$$ for those options that come standard on 3 times cheaper mazda 6

running now into 3 years of ownership, never regretted not having Air, however SportChrono is a MUST only for the auto stop/start function.
Air I think is subject to your preference, I tried both with and without and the difference is huge, but for me it is not worth it plus I intend to keep the car for a very long time so no air gives me the peace of mind.
And, yes, if u get SC you can install our memory module that will keep car setup how u like it!
Otherwise car will default to lame/slow mode every time you start it. And its absolutely dead in slow mode. always in top gear, and 5 seconds wait between hitting the pedal and acceleration. Base has to be kept in Sport to have a normal (nothing crazy) for porsche drive

Reading your description, *** has nothing to do with factory logic rather government regulations and corporate average fuel economy. Simply put, Cayenne (and all other vehicles) use fuel when idling at a stop light. Shutting the engine off saves fuel as does operating in the comfort mode. Regulations require the vehicle to default to the most efficient mode if the manufacturer wants to list the better mileage in that mode.
The base Cayenne is sluggish at low revs regardless of mode. I found the S to be quite responsive.
So I took suggestions into consideration and went back to do some comparable at the dealership. I can make any changes up til 9/16 then it locks in the build with a wait for it .12/24 delivery date.
PASM, Sport Crono, quad tip exhaust only (the horizontal box exhaust are pretty ugly. Premium Plus package.
Now Im at a crossroads with the interior. The exterior is Black so initially thinking black interior but the red looks good in the configurator. Anyone have this color combo (blk/red)?

thanks again for all the comments!
I personally don't like to match exterior/interior. I went with Truffle brown but its an expensive option if you have a budget to work within. Standard grey would be a good choice if you don't want to spend on leather.
Given how you described you'd use it, I'd just get air suspension as it is a must have and hugely improves both comfort and sport mode ride quality. Sport exhaust is just cosmetics. And on base, you can live without sport Chrono.
I agree. If you just want a very nice Porsche with lots of room and thats comfortable, Id just get the air suspension on the base model.

The red and black interior is awesome! Its also full leather which is a nice improvement over the base plastic dash. That interior is one of our favorite options (along with Surround View, soft-close doors, and PASM/air suspension).
