Baffling... when this thread started on 5/3, the US build site still showed Tip S trannies for the hybrids. Just checked for something else in the specs today and now the US site has changed to PDK for the hybrids as well! Really??

I suspect this has to do with improving fuel economy. Maybe the PDK is more efficient and adds a few points to the fuel economy. Or, perhaps the PDK allows smoother transition to coasting? I've driven 911 and macaw GTS, both with PDK and I found them to be excellent, smooth transmissions. The transmission in the 2021 Cayenne GTS I have on test drive this weekend is pretty smooth as well.

I wonder if the change to PDK for the hybrid is to reduce weight.

Is the 8 speed PDK unit lighter than the automatic?

This is just a programming error. The PDK is not coming to any Cayenne anytime soon IMO.

Absolutely this seems like a typo, but if any Cayenne got the PDK I have to imagine it'd be the e-Hybrid.

I don't think the biggest problem with a PDK for towing is the weight itself, so much as getting moving with the weight. A fully laden Cayenne and tandem trailer is ~12k lbs and IME needs to slip the torque converter a lot in those 0-20 and especially 0-10 speeds. A heavy duty clutch with a human operator can handle that, but the PDK clutches are smaller (since there's two of them) and fairly digital in how they operate. But that should be much less an issue on an e-Hybrid since the electric motor is helping out a lot at those low speeds; in fact on some ZF hybrids like the 530e, they skip the torque converter altogether.

Could be a typo, or maybe they will confirm that no one really wants to tow with a Cayenne coupe hybrid! Just lease a RAM 1500 for towing.

What's so funny is I wonder how many actually tow with a Cayenne, or buy a Cayenne with its towing capacity in mind.

I mean, me. I live in the city and work downtown, so a truck would be a huge pain but I still need to tow antiques and building supplies for our old house. Plus the Cayenne also fills the luxury car and sport sedan roles for us. Since it covers all the useful roles we have, that means all the other garage spaces can have our favorite parked in them--sports cars. And hopefully before long, a Cup car, which circles back to the Cayenne's ability to tow a rather good amount.

Our airstream in Homer, AK, towed by our '06 CS. This was a 3-1/2 month round trip from NorCal.

PDK could make some sense when coupled with Lightweight Sport Package, including centre-mounted exhaust tailpipes, as tow-hitch is unavailable with that configuration.

This is great. But most, maybe >90% of Cayenne owners will never tow this much weight. A PDK can be a great option for those of that prefer a great transmission understanding the lower towing ability. I believe Macans can tow 4500 with the PDK.

I this is is more than a “bug” in the site, tow capacity is now listed as 6,600 lbs - vs. 7,700 lbs from the spec sheet for my MY’21 Cayenne TurboS eHybrid - so if this is a site bug they also updated towing specifications.

Turbo “build” configurator lists legacy transmission and 7,700 lbs towing capacity - eHybrid lists PDK and 6,600 towing capacity

MY acutal delivered MY’21 Cayenne TurboS eHybrid lists 7,700 lbs towing capacity and the non-PDK transmission.

I think the eHybrids are getting PDK’s - probably something to do with the eV motor being able to behave better with a dual clutch system.

Yes this is what I said on post #15, as it was the same on the Canadian Configurator. A bit of a concern for me as I placed an order for a TurboS e-Hybrid, but the 3000 kg (6600 lbs) will cut it close for me compared with the 3500 kg (7700 lbs) of my actual Cayenne Turbo and a 2022 Cayenne Turbo.
I had checked both the Canadian and France Configurators at the time and they all said PDK. I just rechecked and they now say (including Germany) Tiptronic S. But towing is still at 3000 kg. Confused you say !
