Default Cargo Mat Comparison and Review

My search for a suitable cargo liner / mat is finally complete. I evaluated three different products; my thoughts may prove useful to some in this forum.

I purchased my 2019 Cayenne with the Porsche OEM Cargo Liner already installed (Figure 1).
Available here: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU9Y0LCL.html
The liner has a raised edge on the perimeter, along with a Cayenne silhouette and Porsche logo that looks very nice. It fits well but covers the four cargo tie-down rings. Some have posted in forums that they cut the liner to accommodate the tie-down rings. Note that this modification will defeat the ability of the liner to contain large liquid spills. Unfortunately, it is made with a hard, slick plastic and cargo tends to slip and slide across the low-friction surface. The hard plastic can become scratched and marred with normal use.

Enter the Weathertech Cargo Liner, available here: https://www.weathertech.com/porsche/2020/cayenne/cargo-liner/
This liner is tough and well constructed with a softer, more rubbery material that grips cargo better than the hard plastic Porsche liner. Items will still slip around during spirited driving, though. The fit is great; just like Porsche liner with a raised perimeter that also covers the tie-down rings. We bought the optional bumper protector for an additional $40. It is made of a rubberized fabric that snaps to the liner with two snaps. It is easily detached but we normally roll it up and stow it with the snaps attached. We installed this in my wife’s Cayenne, as it is our dog hauler and routinely gets lots of dirt and grime. This bumper flap is particularly useful protecting the bumper during the puppy’s clumsy ingress and egress. Good dog! Note: The Drop Frame Function (Lowering button) to lower the rear bumper is the puppy’s favorite feature on the Cayenne! Apologies for the picture. It’s the only one I have of the WeatherTech (Figure 2).

My Cayenne, in contrast, is used more as a luxury SUV. A rubber mat just didn’t seem proper. Until yesterday the cargo area was naked with factory carpet and I worried that something would spill and ruin it. I looked at the Lloyd’s mats but couldn’t find a good color match. Porsche OEM Reversible Cargo Mat to the rescue! (Figure 3).
Available in several colors here: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/9Y0CARGOMAT.html
This is the mat I’ve been waiting for. The carpet is a perfect match for my Truffle Brown carpeting - its the exact same carpet cut and trimmed to fit - complete with cutouts for the cargo tie-downs. It has a much more luxurious look than the rubber liners, if that’s what you’re going for.

The mat is reversible. Flip it over to reveal a very grippy textured rubber surface (Figure 4). This is the most grippy of all three I have evaluated. Additionally, the mat comes with a rubberized plastic bumper protector affixed with Velcro. The bumper protector may be attached to either side of the mat (Figure 5).

There you have it. My utilitarian choice is the WeatherTech. For maintaining that factory look, go with the OEM Reversible Cargo Mat.

My two cents....I have the Porsche liner and it is indeed cheaply made. Wish I hadn’t jumped on my salesman's suggestion quite so quickly to purchase it.

Thanks. Just bought one for myself. Now all I need is the car to put it in.

Here's what I like about the WeatherTech:
  1. Fits the cargo area very well and will hold liquids.
  2. Doesn't move around.
  3. Easy to pull out and hose off after hauling the dog.
  4. Doesn't scratch easily.
Be careful of products that have velcro to hold the mat in place, as the mat may still move around and damage the carpet below. Happened to me on an X3 with the factory mat. Dealer refunded the cost of the mat, and replaced the carpet.

Good review.

+1 for the Weathertech with roll-up mat. I am also very happy with the fit, finish and utility.

Now we need a back seat dog protector thread. Dog is convinced he can't jump high enough to get in the back and I'm convinced I don't want to pick hm up. He's not gonna ride in the car much but sometimes he's gonna have to.

Still deciding if puppy can be trusted not to destroy the back seat without the optional Porsche Titanium Cladded Seats (PTCS). Until then, she enjoys her crate in the back.

We went through the drill figuring how to get the puppy into the Cayenne. We knew she would grow to be a big girl, so we experimented early on with stairs and steps. Now at 8 months old, she’s 70 pounds and my wife says she’s not picking her up anymore!

First iteration was a set of folding stairs. We sent them back, as they took too much time and the use of both hands to fold / unfold while trying to control a frisky puppy. They were bulky even when folded. Plus, they extended too far from the bumper to allow using them with the garage door closed.

We now use a set of cleverly designed folding steps that fold down to two inches deep. You can see it stowed right along the side of the crate in my original post. Folding / unfolding is automatic when you pick it up by the appropriate handle. Brilliant! Plus, they don’t take a lot of space and can be used with the garage door closed.

Darn - that second one looks great for my Danes to use. Amazon says "currently unavailable".

Thanks for the review. I was going to go with the WeatherTech, but I I kind of like the third one better.

The third one looks really nice, but I like the spill protection that the Weather Tech one offers.

After going through the same basic process as the OP, trying different cargo mat options, I too decided on the OEM reversible mat. Used them for my Cayenne and Macan. Now if I used my Porsche SUVs more for utility than I do, I’d throw something back there that’s more robust. But we have other vehicles for that sort of stuff.

The OEM reversible mat looks great, and is fine for light/medium duty use. It also allows access to the cargo hooks, which in my case is important because I also use the OEM cargo net.

I bought the WeatherTech. Seems pretty good to me. I line the lip around the edges. Without it, dirt and debris and maybe liquids could go off the edges and into the factory carpet. Even with it some does, depending on what you carry. I have had 10 bags of mulch or soil back there, trash bags and junk for dump runs, etc.

Woot! My Cayenne is on it's way to FL from NY. Should be delivered on Monday. Thanks to this great write-up, I've ordered the WeatherTech cargo liner & the OEM rubber mats for the cabin. Our son plays soccer & I'm much happier having his grubby boots on the rubber floor mats than on carpet. I'll be sure to share pics & details when it arrives, since none of you has seen a Cayenne before.
