Nope; no sway at all up to 75 mph—haven’t towed faster than that. I don’t think 3 axle trailers put much tongue weight down as relative to their weight; most all weight is carried on the three axles. Interesting experience; when I first towed the boat, it made so much racket in the Cayenne I thought I had broken the hitch. Clang, bang—scared me to death and I DID get some light sway then. Then I realized that my old tow vehicle’s 1997 Tahoe’s hitch was bolted direct to the chassis—which absorbed most of the hitch and receiver movement and clanking. The Cayenne, being a unit body and the hitch is bolted directly to the body—gets all the vibration, noise, and movement of the hitch in the receiver. Bought one of those large U-bolt thingies from Fleabay that clamps around the receiver and the hitch to hold both of them tightly together as one unit, and viola; all sway and noise from the hitch went bye-bye. When towing, I also set the suspension into the first level sport mode which helps dampen any body movement of the vehicle. Lessons you learn from experience...

ok, thanks sensation, seems like you're pushing the weight and hitch envelopes but you seem to have it under control. I plan to pull a 23 foot airstream and good to know that I will have plenty of margin with my 2020 Cayenne Hybrid.

Default Mirrors?

Anything else I need to consider?
Same vehicle here, what was your mirror solution? The clip on variety or something better? Thanks

Which mirrors did you choose?

Did you guys monitor transmission temps when towing? I do not have my 9Y0 yet but plan on having it replace my Diesel as a tow vehicle for my race trailer - trying to gauge if I need to have an auxiliary cooler rigged planned before the car arrives.

Example of how I plan on rigging it up, using my racecar as an example.

Reviving an old thread. @DC021 are you towing a racecar trailer with a newer Cayenne? I'm debating on replacing my Yukon with a Cayenne and I tow a 20' open featherlite with my E46 on it.

Any info greatly appreciated. Debating if it's a good long term solution to avoid buying a daily car and another tow vehicle when I replace the Yukon.

Thanks!
Tom

I found a great article about a newbie towing an Airstream with a Cayenne e-Hybrid. Author’s focus is more on the family experience, rather than technical, but a great read:

I towed a 6,500 lb Airstream all over the west, down the Baja peninsula to Cabo and up through the Yukon to Alaska. Never had a problem with oil, coolant or transmission fluid temps and I monitored them with an OBD reader. This was with my 2006 Cayenne S as I have not had the need to tow with my GTS.

Check and double check tire treads and pressures including spare. Be safe!

I will recommend getting a Weigh Safe ball mount, where you can see how much tongue weight is applied.
I had been using it on my Silverado for over 2.5 years w/o a problem. Recently bought a 2024 Cayenne and planning to install a hitch to take my GT3RS to the track on my trailer.
