Default 20,000 mile service on 2019-$1000!!

Called 2 dealers and they both want between 950-1000 for the 20k service which is just an oil filter change. Probably going to do the service myself. Is there an OBD tool to turn off the service alert?

I use durametric. But I am not sure their latest can do the new Cayenne since I dont have a lot of mileage on mine. Not too much else.

I've also used durametric on my Porsche's to reset the oil change and inspections notifications, as I've done the work myself, but not sure if it works on the 2019/20 cayennes. As far as I know, it's the only device available to reset service messages other than Porsche's own tools (I think it's called PWIS). The website is below and shows what is compatible, but it's not updated as I use it successfully on my 991.2 (2017), but the site doesn't show that. A call to them might clear this up. I have the enthusiast version that limits the tool use to just three different VIN's; I've use all 3, so I'd have to buy a new one -- assuming it's compatible with the new cayenne. I've got plenty of time since mine is just entering production, and the first service is free, so I'm 2 years away from needing a reset tool. BTW, this durametric tool only works with a PC; no MAC for you.

Thats a lot of money. I haven’t hit 2 years/20k miles on my cayenne yet. Can’t wait. :-(

I wonder why you were quoted so high. Do you know what they do for this? And do you know if what they are quoting you is for factory recommended or required maintenance only, or does the service include other unnecessary items that many dealers add just to get more money? When I bring my cars into service for regular maintenance, I make sure I’m being quoted factory recommended maintenance only. That can save a couple hundred. If it’s a 2-year service, I assume the factory recommended service will include only (1) oil/filter change, and possibly (2) brake fluid change. Other than also check this and check that, that’s about it for a 2 year/20k mi service. Shouldn’t cost $900-1000. I don’t pay that much for my 911’s yearly maintenance, which I assume should cost more than a cayenne to service.

This is in line with what we were quoted for the recommended 10K service intervals before we signed on the dotted line. I don't like surprises.

The 30K service is a killer -- includes many more things, including spark plug replacement (!). I remember the number being in the $3K range. Guess Porsche is not a fan of platinum-tipped plugs.

We know or should have known what we were getting into when we bought these overpriced cars -- overpriced service. C'est la vie.

Can you tell me where I can find the Manufacturer's Recommended Service list for the car? Is it in the car's manual?

Having owned VWs & Audis over the years, I've always bought the service for the duration of the warranty (48k for VWs and Audis). It was about $800 for the VWs and $1200 for the Audis. So I bought the prepaid service for $2000 that covers the services to 48k. And this included the wheel and tire replacement protection. I negotiated this cost on top of the 9% discount when I ordered my Cayenne. I guess its not such a bad deal after all.

Find an independent mechanic. I paid $125 for the 20k service which consisted of an oil change plus $70 to replace the cabin filter which I did myself. Same price for 30k mile service. I asked the dealer if the plugs should be changed as the manual states and was told no, they recommend replacing them at 40k miles.

Porsche race shop that campaigns multiple Cup cars and has some great techs quoted me 300. Seems like that is the way to go. They have a new PIWIS to reset the computer.

What the heck? That's more than my Ferrari was. I am surprised, to say the least. May have to trade it in before then...

Hey all,

To the folks that have had their 20K service, can you post what you got done and what your cost was? I'm coming up on mine and would like some more info before throwing money at the dealership!

Thanks!

Hey LSR,

What have your average service costs been for your 911?

Thanks!

Depends, of course, on the service. I take the car to a Porsche shop to avoid warranty issues should something later go awry. The annual oil/filter service (10k mi, 30k, etc.) typically costs me $365-390. The bi-annual (20k, 40k, etc) brake fluid flush costs about $360-80. Replacing the plugs, which I did once, cost a ridiculous $580.

To cut costs, I've found that maintenance service prices can vary from one dealer to another by 10% or more so I take the car to whoever has the best price for the needed maintenance. Plus, I tell the dealer not to do anything more than the car's manual says to do. Dealers are notorious for adding on unnecessary maintenance that the factory does not require to maintain your warranty (like, changing wiper inserts that they don't need changing, replacing cabin filters that don't require replacement, etc.). If wipers or cabin filters are needed, I buy the parts online at discount and do the work myself as long as it's simple - and it usually is. And if I have concern about whether I can tackle the job, I can usually find a good YouTube showing the way.

I have yet to learn the cost of my Cayenne's 20k service, but I'll find out soon enough as I have only 2500 more miles to go to 20k. I can't imagine an oil change/brake flush will cost more than for my 911, but we shall see. If you bring your car in, please let us know what we can expect.
