Backup Camera with Surround view?
Hello All,
Question this has probably been gone over but is surround camera 360 view worth the extra price or is standard camera enough with the sensors?
Would appreciate some thoughts!

Yes i think its really worth the money. The cameras are very clear and many views.

I agree with everybody else. For $1200 it’s one of the better deals on the options list. My wife loves it. Very similar to Infiniti’s SurroundView system, but with higher-resolution cameras. And as slave2miles mentioned, the wheel view is worth the price of admission alone if you’re worried about curbing.
And no, automated parking is not part of the deal in the U.S. Our SA said it’s coming, but he didn’t know when. It will be an additional cost.

My wife drives our Cayenne and has always had a poor sense of where the perimeters of a car are, especially with a hood, such as on the Cayenne, that seems to slope off view-wise to infinity. She can park my large S550 rather easily because she uses the hood ornament as a guide to where the front of the body of the car stops.
So, with the Cayenne, I did purchase the surround view for her and she loves it. The view is her "diamond" programmed button thus she just hits the diamond when it comes time to park the vehicle.
Interestingly, as she pulls into the garage, the surround view comes on automatically - I guess all the cameras realize she's pulling into the garage? Or does the car know it's home and automatically turn it on?

The cameras come on when the sensors in the bumper detect that there are objects near by. Probably as she drives near the garage they activate. The system works well so far.

She too lacks spacial awareness when parking, a potentially expensive thing in a $150K car. The option was a no-brainer, especially as it’s basically identical to what she’s been using for the last four years.
And WCH is right-on with how the cameras activate at low speed moving forward. The moment the sensors detect an obstacle nearby, on go the cameras.
