Oil Dripping from High-Pressure Fuel Pump & P1031
Interesting last couple of months.
- Ever increasing in size oil spot on pavement.
- Last 7 days smell of synthetic oil (a distinctive plastic smell) and whiffs of smoke.
- Random start-up problem. long start, rough idle, Check Engine Light and Auto Stop Start disabled.
Hmmmm?
Get under car and drop plastic belly pan expecting/hoping to find oil coming from oil drain plug or oil filter housing. Nope. Find oil dripping from the bottom of the high-pressure fuel pump onto the engine exhaust pipes and cats. I investigate topside of engine. Some long term residual from the AOS, but no traces of oil down any galley ways.
Pulled out the Durametric and P1031 is showing for the engine.
These two might be related, or not. I am guessing that the oil seal between the HP pump and head has broken down. No clue on the P1031. Not a lot of info out there on that one.
Thoughts, prayers and any available voodoo would be appreciated.

Fuel pump failed. Replaced under warranty. Fuel rails where inspected for metal contamination. None was found.
Early on higher rpms would reduce the roughness but overtime the pump just couldn't get the job done.

Year and model? (Assuming a V8 since that's what it looks like, and assuming a 958 since you have the red-headed coils.. and it was covered by some sort of warranty.) There is a specific 958 forum now. This probably belongs there.
