958 GTS Transfer Case rebuild - SUCCESS!!!
Been a few months coming but I pulled the transfer case out of my 2013 GTS today. I bought the chain and clutch set from AWD.tech. Hoping to have it back together and driving by Sunday. I'll update with a few pics along the way and then come back for a better write up.
Until then...
****UPDATE****
successfully rebuilt and back on the road by Sunday.

The case is still on my bench but almost back together. I'm fighting with the circlip that holds the clutch assembly, I need to compress the clutch pack abut 3/16" to get the clip in. Wife and kids came home so it was a good time to stop.
Long story short, the clutches were worn down quite a bit and the chain was really loose!

I have never had my hands on the inside of a transfer case, but is it unusual to have to compress the clutch pack? You have probably seen this video,
Starting at around 3:20 he is paying a lot of attention to the clutch pack, how he settles the various plates and gets it into the casing. Just thought i would share.

SUCCESS!
No more surging, bucking, hesitation or funky downshifts while driving. No more clicking, scrubbing or banging at parking lot speeds. No more clunks/thumps while changing between forward and reverse. Drives like a dream again.
Not a bad job at all. Can be done in a solid day. I did it on my garage floor with a floor jack to lower/raise the case in place. I'll work on a write up as time permits.

How difficult was it to remove the transfer case from the car? From looking at the workshop manual, it seems like both cardan shafts just slide off the splines, and you hold the transmission in place with a wooden block (literally calls for a wooden block). Is that what you did? I'm more concerned with taking the transfer case out of the car than actually rebuilding it.
