Question Rim Size?/ AfterMarket

I have a 2017 Cayenne with Cayenne Design 11 19" rims. I am thinking about changing them to either 20" or 21" rims (aftermarket) wondering if 21" rims look Too Big?
And thoughts on Aftermarket compared to oem?

Thanks

Chilly

they are a factory option. In my opinion, no they don't, but I run 22s on ours. Its hard to get a good contrast with black wheels on a black car in photos, but this one shows them the best of the pictures that I have, I think.

your right black looks good but it is hard to judge the size.
Leftlane what style rims do you have?

Here is mine with 21 inch vorsteiner rims and stock size tires (295). Stock fender extensions for a 2015 CD ... didn't seem to need to change.

How are 22" for comfort? Can you feel all the bumps? Any mods needed to get them to fit?

It seems that I've seen quite a few cases of buyer's regret from people who bought 22" rims. With the rubber bands that get mounted on them, they provide very little damping of road irregularities. Probably good for track use though.

I think you are right with the 22"s. Maybe the maximum for comfort should be 20"s, but Porsche sells 21"s and I'm sure they wouldn't sell 21"s unless they were nice to ride on. If you have 21"s, please comment. Thanks.

2014 Cayenne Turbo S. OEM 21" wheels. I have a set of 19" wheels with Blizzaks for winter.

The 19" wheels/tires definitely give a softer & more comfortable ride, with the trade off being the handling is not as crisp and precise as the 21" wheels. Blizzaks also have more road noise than the Michelin Latitude 3's I run for summer. The Blizzaks are a great winter tire, BTW. Hadn't had studless winter tires before this and I'm a convert now.

The 21" wheels/tires do transmit more of the minor bumps and road imperfections than the 19" but I've gotten used to it now after a few years driving it. Have noticed that the ride feel variation between the suspension modes (comfort/normal/sport) is much more pronounced with the 21s vs 19s. OEM tires were P Zeroes, which I didn't like much. The Michelins are much nicer but tread wears like they're made out of liquid rubber; will be surprised if I get 20K miles out of them.

Interestingly (to me at least), GF just got a Lexus RX. Quite the highway cruiser but even in "sport" mode, I feel like I'm piloting a blimp. A nimble blimp, but a blimp nonetheless.

I have almost the exact setup DrBillyD has - and agree - the difference is noticeable. And my wife has a Lexus RX also - it's boring to drive. That's it's worst fault. It doesn't engage the driver at all.

Great answers. So I shall be on the hunt for used 21s and not worry about comfort. Maybe 20s and forget about 22s. Thanks for that.

IMHO, if you’re sticking with a single set a wheels, I believe 20” is the sweet spot. And stay with OEM if you can.

Even with PASM and air suspension, you can tell a difference in ride quality between 19” and 21” setups.
