We did the exhaust today. Before I started the FL project, I have bought the quad tips from Aliexpress. Unfortunately, since the FL cars have exhaust cutouts moved to the sides, we had to modify the tips piping to make them fit.

We have moved them approx 4" away from the mufler and ~1.5" up (chence the use of two elbows vs straight piping - otherwise the tips would end up being tilted upwards, which looks a bit goofy).

Two remarks:

- the tubing, on the contrary to what the chineese seller have claimed, is regular, not stainless steel.
- the tubing on these tips is straight vs angled down as on the OEM tips. So when installed on a 2010-2014, pre FL car, where they supposedly should fit plug&play, they end up being tilted upwards. It doesn't look right IMO, which is why we have used those two elbows to rise the rear end.

I FINALLY got all 4 taillights right.

The first tailgate (inner) lights I got with the tailgate turned out to be in US spec (red turn signals), so I had to return them (useful tip: US version has a SAE text printed on the label next to the part #, EU one has ECE).

The second left tailgate was OK, but the right turned out to have some broken mounts so I had to return it.

The third one turned out to be smoked version (GTS model). So I bougth the fourth one, which again - turned out to be smoked version.

Today I got FIFTH tailgate right light and it finally fits the rest of the car.

Now I need to collect the funds from those ebay sellers. Thankfuly, EU law mandates every item you buy can be returned withing 14 days period, no questions asked.

Looks great no doubt... but it's an awful lot of work!

Given the choice, I'd update the front end to a .2 before I did the rears.

The front end has only minor tweaks, mainly in the front bumper/grill section - not worth the money IMO.

What would make this project worthwile is full LED updrade - it is the LED headlights that transform the look of the car. Unfortunately, there is no proven path for 958.1 BiXenon to 958.2 LED conversion. That would require PDLS to PDLS Plus upgrade on the electrical side. Plus a lot on the bodywork side as well: new hood, fenders, bumper, headlights, fogs etc.

BTW - I have managed to sell many of my leftover, pre FL parts already.

With everything sold, my parts bill should be ... $0 (yes, zero).

That would leave me with $1200 labor bill. Not bad, for such an extensive project which transformed the look of the car. If my car was in a different color than white (which has changed from pre to post lift model, forcing us to respray the tailgate and bumper from the new Flat White to the old Sand White), my labor bill would be even lower.

I can imagine doing this project for as little as $700 on a car say in black (any color that was carried over from 2010-2014 to 2015-2018 model).

The EU and NA taillights look identical when turn signals are not lit. Only when turn signals are on, you can see that they are different.

Here you can see the EU tails in operation (with an additional, aftermarket dynamic turn siugnal module which lights them up in a sequence, Audi style):

That is really cool. Where might someone find this module? Is it just a plug and play? Thanks.

Here is what is wrong with the front: the entire front car body (under the panels) is different. This is no more a simple parts swap job, like the rear end FL. To do it right, one would need to cut & weld pretty much the entire front of the car, as the apron assembly is different, due to different shape of the hood / fenders:

I never noticed that the hood was different, .1 to .2.

I just really dislike the front bumper on the .1, and figured the bumper cover itself was mostly the difference. Looks too rounded and wimpy, especially compared to the .2. The .1 tail end never really bugged me.

Just took a look at both front ends and would have never realized that if you didn't post this picture. Wonder why they did this. Looks like easier access to the engine.

Elberoth did you have to purchase anything specific to get the new steering wheel working on 958?

I think the new steering wheel would work only by coding it, but if not I find out about it soon
