I see the relay that has been recommended/suggested.

Any link to where I can get one of those?

You may need to install a relay if you're using a Prodigy or P3 brake controller. The display of these controllers can be erratic when used on 2009-current Volkswagen Touregs and Porsche Cayennes. To avoid this problem, you should install a 12V, normally open relay. The following instructions and numbered diagram will help you install the relay correctly.

(The Prodigy RF wireless brake controller uses radio signals to control the brakes on your trailer, so it does not need a relay.)
  1. Obtain locally, a 12 volt, normally open relay.
  2. Connect the ground terminal (85) of the relay to a ground under the dash.
  3. Connect the trigger terminal (86) of the relay to pin #3 of the brake control connector.
  4. Connect the red wire from the brake control to the load terminal (87) of the relay.
  5. Connect the source voltage terminal (30) to a 12 volt source. This wire should have a 5-amp fuse installed in-line.

I definitely had the relay in my old 955, I could hear it click everytime I hit the brake pedal. Had the dealer move my brake controller over from my old 955 to my current 958, can't hear the relay click now. I better call the dealer and make sure they installed the relay. Not sure why they wouldn't move everything over, it was all there before...

I didn't mess with any relay in my 958... never an issue braking... ??

I wired in the relay on my 12 Touareg. Only hear the click when trailer is connected. But I've also heard the relay is no longer needed.

I wired in the relay when I built the harness for my P3. You can get one at any just about auto parts store. I got mine at O'Reilly's. May not need it but I added it just in case.

I can now verify that there is NO relay needed for the 2016 CD.

I picked up my new PROLine 714 SNO today and everything is working perfectly with no need for a relay, just the harness from the vehicle, to the harness purchased and put together by us, then plugged into the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, I had turned up the boost all the way to 14, with the additional boost to #3 and the entire setup works brilliantly.

The trailer is also awesome. I had it custom built and it took 5 weeks from order to finish and it pulls like a dream.

Nice trailer and great job on the Prodigy P3 installation... Has anyone installed the REDARC brake controller? I like the fact that the only exposed component is a small dial (everything else can be installed hidden behind the dash or elsewhere). I'm curious how the REDARC has been working out, and where people have installed the button/dial component (ie, dash, console, external bracket, etc).

I had considered the Redarc but once I realized that I had no good place on the truck to install the controller, decided to go with the big(ger) box of the P3. I'm not one to go taking apart the console(s) to find a good place for the install so I am ok with the P3. Unless I'm towing, like I was yesterday, I don't notice it.

I do like all the options/settings of the P3 and the screen that can show a lot of information.

I just had the redarc installed (I haven't seen it yet as I'm out of town) but I had the *** installed where the cigarette lighter resides in the drink holder.

Looking forward to seeing the install ... it should look just like it did when the cigarette lighter lived there.

I'll add pics when I get back next week.

Should be a nice "stealth" look but WOW what a lot of work to remove all of that trim to run the wiring.

Apparently it's done and placed in the cigarette lighter position ... I was having a dedicated mute switch done for the k40 already so it de-frayed the cost a bit.
The k40 placement is pretty slick too ... had it moved over from a jeep srt that was averaging 13 mpg.
Turn signals illuminate in blue directionally for front and rear radar and hidden mute switch is actually a sensor that lies just beneath the driver's side center console where there is no switch.
I'll have to post a video of the setup.

Unlike other daily drivers, I plan on driving the wheels off this CD because of the unlimited mileage warranty bumper to bumper warranty and the incredible gas mileage ... by mid 2023 it should be north of 200k.

I was hyper mile-ing behind a semi the other day and was averaging 37 mpg for the time that I was behind him. Going 65 won't create much need for the k40 but if you are in a hurry ...
