Sold my macan turbo to get into a CTT. If it matters, I believe the depreciation hit will be much greater on the Macan. I know it's not on your list but I would look for a 2014 or 15, if you prefer the updated looks, CPO CTT.

You really need to drive both. I prefer the way the Macan drives and feels, but my wife likes the size of the Cayenne.

$97k Macan seems nutty to me. Terrific car and I enjoyed trying one but I liked it for $60k not the $85k sticker on the one I tried.

I too think the depreciation will be hit harder on the Macan as I'm buying a high sticker vs the GTS which is a modest sticker - I do agree that I should drive the Macan and it would likely be a better "city" size but I keep thinking about the notion of paying the same dollars albeit a 17 vs 16 on a Macan vs Cayenne

Test, can't see post #6. Odd, after my posting now rest of thread visible.

The back seat of the Macan is small, average size adults don't fair so well back there.

I agree with others here, you really have to drive them both, and back to back if possible. For me it came down to the size difference (Macan a bit too tight for what I wanted) and more importantly the difference between the 6 and 8 cylinder motors, I preferred the 8. So I went with the CTT. Of course the '16 Cayenne GTS you're looking as is the turbo'ed 3.6 V6, so the V6 vs V8 issue will not be a factor in your particular decision between the two.

But again, get behind the wheel of both of them and see what you think.

In my family we have a '17 Macan S with Air Suspension, '16 Cayenne Turbo, (those belong to my wife and me), '15 Macan Turbo (parents') and '08 Cayenne GTS (additional utility vehicle belonging to my parents). Having spent extensive time driving all four of those vehicles in various environments, I think that I can help by offering my opinion but it's tough without knowing what you'd be using the SUV for.

Any towing? Off roading? Often carrying passengers in the back seats (and would they be kids or adults)?

Mostly 2 passengers, but when 4 all adults, major trips are between our home in the city and our Lakehouse - 2 hr drive - used mostly for golf, grocery getter and carrying my road bike from time to time - 5000 miles annually

How much luggage? That was the deciding factor between a Macan and the Cayenne I ordered. The Macan was indeed a blast to drive but the rear cargo are is considerably less roomy than the Cayenne. The rear hatch slopes down quite a lot and this interferes with fitting cargo when the seats are in use. That and there's just enough loss of rear passenger legroom to be an issue for adults in the backseat. The legroom I could overlook as I don't regularly have adult passengers in the back, but the rear cargo height was a deal-breaker.

I tested pretty much EVERY mid-to-upmarket SUV out there, including the Maserati Levante and the Jaguar F-Pace. Those two also shared the Macan's lack of rear cargo height due to the roofline.

What I did was load up my Grand Cherokee with the typical amount we'd take on weekend boat trips. Mainly a few duffles and medium/large cooler. I attempted to swap that into a Macan and immediately found the cooler would not fit front-to-back because of the downward slope of the hatch. This meant everything else would have to get rearranged, stacked up basically, and it'd totally block rear visibility. Everything moved with room to spare into the Cayenne. Thus I'm eagerly anticipating Nov/Dec delivery of my Cayenne GTS.

I'd mostly be echoing what people have already said in your sister thread in the Macan forum and in this thread regarding cargo and passenger capacity. I'll add that the size difference between the models looks smaller on paper than it actually is. In my experience, the space for rear passengers and cargo in the Cayenne is significantly larger than the Macan and it's immediately noticeable. It's such a difference in fact that I would drive well out of my way to swap our Macan for our Cayenne if I had to ferry passengers around for anything longer than a few minutes.

On the performance side of this question, I think that the discussion becomes one of personal driving tastes. Our MY16 Cayenne feels more robust and solid on the road than our MY17 Macan (less affected by strong crosswinds, less road and wind noise transferred through the glass) so I greatly prefer it as a highway cruiser. Having said that, both our Macan S and the MY15 Macan Turbo that my parents have are much more fun to drive through corners. They feel similar to an Audi S4 that I drove until recently, in fact. In a word, nimble. The PDK transmission is nothing short of awesome (much better than Audi's dual clutch, I'll add), the lower weight of the Macan compared to the Cayenne is impossible to ignore, and the steering feels light while maintaining excellent road feel.

So I guess it comes down to where you'll be driving more than anything else. Lots of time on winding scenic backroads warrants the nimble nature of the Macan and its faster acceleration. If driving out to your lake house and golf courses will take up most of your time behind the wheel, I'd got Cayenne GTS all day long.

I hope that helps a bit!

16 listed for $112k. It's a great vehicle that's a great drive. Plenty of room, especially in the back seat. Plenty of power to when in sports mode and exhaust valves open 👍
