I believe I have fixed the issue of hot air under the dash / driver's (left) foot area.
I inspected under the center console and found lots of forced are that seemed to be leaking out under the dash. In the below picture, you see a "sandwich" of plastic boxes around the heater core (foam covered piece). There was a lot of air escaping between the layers of this sandwich, and it was very HOT. I covered this area with foil HVAC tape as pictured. No more air leaking, no more hot foot. The AC seems to be more efficient now. I suspect that since the air was escaping the system and not passing the temperature sensors that the automated system could not properly meter the temperature and appropriate flow.
I just got into this problem on my 12 too. So sealing as above will be next. But I'm not sure I understood how to accomplish the seal around the temp sensor, pull the left center vent? Any explanation on this would be appreciated. Thanks
Just want to thank jonUF02 for this fix. I used HVAC tape to tape the area in the drivers footwell around the heater core stack to seal the air leaks there. The change is amazing! No more heat is coming out onto the drivers feet. The entire area is cool where in the past it would be very hot. Thanks again jonUF02!
Anyone know how to remove the plastic device (aux heater?) that goes over the part labeled heater core??

Thank you so much @jonUF02 for finding the solution. I am not good at DIY and went to workshop, but they told me to find this heater core, they need to remove the whole dashboard, and take 20 labor hours.
I don't believe them. I wonder if you can advise me, which part of the dashboard/central console I should open, to find this heater core? Thanks a lot!

Hi Lybuaa,
You don’t have to remove the whole dashboard to get to this side of the heater core. By removing the board under the steering wheel you should be able to reach it.
I did this myself and it took me about 1 hour to remove the panel, fix the air leaks with HVAC tape and put everything back.

I didn't remove anything. I just twisted myself to a point where I could look up at the left side behind the center console and put several pieces of the foil tape over the sandwich stack as shown in original pictures.
i was roday with my x431 on my car regarding an issue with the air/recirculated servo motor and noticed that the sensor in the lect driver footwell was showing 85 Celsius. The car was of and also cool so i dont get it why.
tried to remove the sensor and it seams that a condensator blow on the temperature sensor and it missread.
