Hi everyone,
I have a 2016 Porsche Cayenne GTS and I’m facing two issues with the A/C:
Sometimes I get bad smells from the A/C.
During the daytime, the A/C takes a long time to cool the cabin properly.
I already changed the cabin filter, and it helped a little, but not much.
I believe the problem might be with a dirty A/C evaporator (cooling coil).
Can anyone please guide me on how to clean the evaporator using popular A/C cleaning sprays or foam products (like Würth, Liqui Moly, etc.)?
Where should I spray it?
Do I need to remove anything?
Is there an access point from the cabin or under the hood?
Any help or tips would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I would start by confirming the AC drain is clear. Its the little hose exiting above the passenger footwell that attaches to the base of the evaporator box, it can be pulled off and to reinstall spray with silicon or some lubricant as it's a tight fit. If it's clogged that could lead to the excess moisture and smell. if it's freezing up then you could have low refrigerant, this usually means cold AC when the car is started turn reduced output as you drive. I've never cleaned the evaporator on a car but if similar to a home you would spray the foaming cleaner through the air filter access. Even my 2009 doesn't smell and I'm in FL so confirm the drain is working.
Just take out the cabin air filter and you can spray whatever it is you have onto the evaporator from there: you will be able to look right at it when you remove the filter.
