the primary use for my CD is commuting to work, a rather short distance, so it was a prime candidate for a DPF delete, luckily I live in the still (relatively) free side of the state.
First step was to soak all the bolts with PB blaster, blasted, soaked an hour and blaster and soaked again before starting
Tools needed, 10mm, 12mm sockets and a 17mm wrench
started working on the bolts and realized I missed one
Blasted that and went to work on the other, knew this was going to be a fun project when the first bolt simply broke off
Next 2 bolts came off relatively easily, 4 bolt broke.... decided to PB and soak again the last 2 as they are in very hard to reach spots.
to make the worst one a little easier to access I removed one side of the undertray mount cross member
long story short, both the last bolts rounded off, inner side one was fairly easy to get a dremel cut off blade on, outer one not so much.
Oh, there are also 2 hoses connected to the DPF from above, thankfully the clamps are easy to get to
So I decided to cut the flange off the DPF
That allowed me to get a cutoff wheel on the last nut, still wasn't easy but do-able.
you need to re-use the rubber Isolation mounts for the new pipe, problem is the part going into the mount is flared on both side, so more cutting needed.
Once all that was done, just need to wiggle the Darkside pipe in and tighten down the nuts
took about 8 hrs not including the first couple of blast and soaks, updated the stage 1 tune, disabling the DEF, EGR and of course the DPF
Thank you,
My understanding is that you could gut the DPF and reinstall it, flow wont be as good as a new straight pipe, but probably better than a clogged DPF
Yes, the tune is the only other thing you would need.
The tunes are flexible, so if you just gutted the DPF you could still run the DEF if you wanted. same for the EGR.
