Default Is the underbody rust on this 2015 an issue?

Hi all. I am in the market for a 2nd Gen Cayenne and here are the underside pictures of a 2015 that lived in Illinois for it's first 6 years. It is now 9 years old.

I'm in California so rust is a bit of a foreign thing to me. Is this level of rust a problem if I wanted say 10 more years of service from it? Is it indicative of a vehicle that is less or more likely to have rust issues in more hidden areas?

Also, what maintenance challenges may I face in the future and is there anything else I could be checking to verify there is not a hidden rust issue?

Thank you!

Compared to a car here in the UK that is absolutely mint! I wouldn't worry at all. If you are concerned get it rust treated but I wouldn't forsee any problems.

That is NOTHING - that underside could easily be from northern California. When you said 6 years in Illinois, I was expecting RUST. Look at the bolts - that is always a good sign. Most of them look factory fresh, Someone must not have driven this much in winters.

Thanks. So not even this part that I've zoomed in on is a worry? Isn't that on the frame rail?

Personally I would not buy a car that spent more than a year or two maximum in rust belt. I don’t see the point unless it is something extremely rare, unique or something you simply must have.

That is overly limiting statement. A good, well maintained car is a good car regardless of where it lived its life.

If the cayenne posted in this thread spend a over half a decade in Illinois but still looks like that its still a good buy from a rust perspective. Its obviously been well cared for or at least was washed regularly. That one rusty bolt holding a heatshield is inconsequential.

I really don't see ANY concerning rust issues in those pictures. I would be more interested in what maintenance was done and documented.

That undercarriage is very clean, no issues from a corrosion perspective. That one spot would take about 10 minutes with a wire brush and some paint to correct.
