Exclamation Permanent E-Hybrid Code: P0D34

Hi all I just bought a 2017 S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition. I've had no issues with it whatsoever and the seller bought it as a CPO then put about 30k miles on it. He did intermittent maintenance on it at the dealer as well.

I did an OBDII scan and code P0D34 Hybrid/EV Battery System Current came up. I haven't been really able to find anything on it. I am nearing the end of the 80k mile charging system warranty so it would be a good time to get more info on it.

Dealer quoted $300 to take a look but i declined because service rep said that it is highly unlikely there would be a fault which would warrant them to replace the entire hybrid battery system.

Otherwise love the car so far, thanks!

If you think $300 is bad, wait until you're on the hook for a new battery.

I have a 2016 S E-Hybrid. Had the same code along with other codes that were non-permanent. Replaced the 12v battery myself and everything was fine again. You'd be surprised how this dramatic this car gets when the 12v battery is on its way out haha. I'm at 100k and counting. As for the hybrid system and/or battery: from what I learned, both components are most likely okay, it's usually something else (thank god) that'll make the car think it's failing. In my case it was the battery. For others, I've read it was a simple cable that either was loose or needed to be replaced.

Hey thanks for the reply. That definitely gives me some peace of mind. I've read other paces as well that the 12v battery can make error codes go bonkers.

How's your driving use on the ICE and electric btw? Do you use the EV mode mostly or hybrid mode? Anything else I should expect? Thanks.

My work commute is about 12 miles, so because I have a charger at home and at work, i'm able to drive during the week full EV. Weekends are where i really wake it up. I avg about 35-45mpg per tank depending on how "spirited" i drive on weekends. I love the E-Hybrid because you get the best of both worlds in one car.

That's similar to my work commute (14 miles) but the charging is almost 6 times more expensive than at home. Your MPG is pretty much in line with what I've got. My average MPG since I got it (about 1.7k miles) hovers around 35. Although, I use the ICE more than you since I'm trying to extend the battery life. Unless there's traffic, I use the ICE on the freeway. Exactly why I love it too

Got any pics of yours?
