Default Check coolant message

Quick question for the experts out there, unfortunately I'm not very handy. I got a new "check coolant" message this morning when I turned on my 2014 CTTS. I kept an eye on engine temperature while I was driving, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The vast majority of my trips are <10mi. Typical temperatures this time of year are >32F and <60F, so not too extreme.

It will be a little while (at least until after the holidays) until I can get serviced and have this checked out/taken care of. I ordered a liter of OEM coolant from pelican parts.

Can I continue to drive short trips with this message, and is there anything complicated for the procedure of topping off the coolant? Is it as simple just unscrew the **** under the hood and dump it in?
Thanks!

Yes. If the message comes up again in short order, you have an obvious leak and should really have it looked at.

If your car has the same engine compartment layout as my 2014 with the V8 engine, there is a lid covering the coolant filler cap which you pull off—it clips in. It’s on the passenger side back toward the windshield. Don’t do it while the engine is hot or running.

Don’t be surprised if the level is ok when you check it, sometimes the sensor is erratic.

Mine used to give an intermittent low coolant warning and the temps would shoot straight to the top, right after I started it for the first time in the morning and engine was stone cold. I would open the coolant tank lid and hear a little burp, then I’d a little coolant and the problem went away every single time.
