New 2018 Cayenne S Owner - Thank you
Jan 28th I purchased my first Porsche. A 2018 Cayenne S. Had every option I wanted except for air. I did a good amount of reading on this forum prior to purchase, and I’m thankful for all of the good information - and here’s why. I initially was looking at a GTS or Turbo, but decided to buy from Carmax with an additional 60 months of warranty (one of the few good aftermarket warranty options). The prices aren’t as good, so I got slightly less car but more peace of mind, which is worth it to me.
I flew down to Florida, picked it up, and drove it home. Immediately took it for a PPI (Carmax has a solid return option). It wound up needing the valve and timing covers serviced due to leaks - exactly what I asked them to look for in the PPI (in addition to the transfer case which was fine).
It’s currently at the dealer being repaired which is a bummer, but it’s at no cost to me, and at this point it’s not even digging into my Maxcare. Over $9,000 in repairs that I don’t need to touch, so THANK YOU.
Within the next few months I’ll likely slap some coilovers on, either KW or Ceika. I’m still doing my research. I really like the look of these when they’re riding a little lower.
I’m very happy with the car in the limited time I’ve had with it. Growing up I never dreamed I’d own a Porsche, it’s a pretty cool feeling. I worked really hard for a long time for this.
If there’s anything I missed, or anyone has any other anecdotal input on things to look out for, please let me know.
Thanks again!
Edit: the “haze” that appears on the hood is just moisture in the photo - the clear/paint isn’t messed up.

Nice looking ride. Carmax's warranty is impressive.

Re, your new baby: word to the wise, drive it. Drive it.
Not abusing her, not baby her too much either. (Why are cars always a female?
I echo what you said “never even dreamed of owning a Porsche…”

There is something about the Porsche that really sets it apart from other German cars I’ve owned. It isn’t “numb”. For an SUV it’s size, it drives
remarkably like a car. It still has “soul”, something the other luxury SUV’s are missing in my opinion.

Drove my first Porsche in 1982, a new 911 SC. Red with Recaro C seats and a whale tail. Spent an afternoon with it, loved it. D'oh.
Joined Rennlist a long time ago, bought my first (full size) Porsche two years ago. It's been a long time coming.

Thank you! It’s my daily so it will get driven. I do have a habit of babying cars too much, so I may have to break that habit.

I've been working from home for over 10 years and don't put many miles on my cars, unless I want to .
That may be changing soon...I might be commuting two days a week from Cape Cod to Boston (150 miles RT, with an AirBnB overnight stay in between.)
So...I'm looking for a commuter car, probably an A6 TDi to keep the miles and abuse off the Cayenne. The fuel costs will be much lower and I won't be parking the Cayenne in an office parking lot.
Of course, I'll probably end up with a really nice A6 and will worry about *that* in the parking lot!

Your answer: “It still has “soul”, something the other luxury SUV’s are missing in my opinion”
When you start driving your new baby you will realize the difference. And when you park your baby the furthest end of parking lots, the Porsche difference will be emphasized.
Of course, if you do an oil service at the Porsche dealership, the difference will be “painful”. Oil service $750 to $1200.
