Default Rear drive shaft

I had my 2011 CS at the dealer today and asked for a diagnosis on a shudder at 40mph when accelerating. I expected it to be the transfer case, but the tech said the rear drive shaft was coming apart. Noted that with the window down could hear some clunking. Quoted $3300. When I first noticed this few months ago I did a TC fluid change and inspected the rear shaft which looked Ok at the time. I'll check again ---here's what the dealer tech noted "....tube inside tube is coming apart, clank at low speed with window down".
How hard a job is this to DIY? Anything else possibly going on?

Come on Bob, if you can install roof rack rails, and change timing tensioners, you can easily drop out the driveshaft in under an hour!

It's just undoing the center support, and popping the shaft off at both ends.

....yes,..you're exactly right, I just looked at the AllData DIY and actually fairly simple. I'm skeptical of the diagnosis but going to get under and see for myself. I know on the early 957s the rear shaft was prone to failures but I've yet to see anyone here with it.

Thanks ...

Bj
