Default TPMS function explanation

I have read a bunch of threads on this topic but not really finding the answer to my question. My front left tire keeps giving a low pressure warning (-6) despite it having the same pressure as the front right. The display shows the pressure accurately versus my manual check. If the TPMS sensor is due to be replaced due to age why would it still seem to function normally as far as registering an accurate pressure? Maybe it's not an all-or-none phenomenon as one would expect. FYI, I am running partial load/comfort pressures of 34/39 on 20 inch all-season tires.

Thanks!

TPMS don’t just die like an on/off switch. When they start to go they can and often will do all sorts of things like read some times, not others, give bad readings, give accurate readings etc etc.
