Default Sunroof shattered. Questions on replaceing??

While on a cross-country trip from AZ to GA, my sunroof was shattered while driving through Oklahoma City. I have no idea if it just let go or something hit it, didn't see anything on my dash cam. I have never dealt with Sunroof systems much in the past so my question is can just the glass panel be removed and replaced or does the whole rack sliding mechanism have to be replaced? I have the one moving glass panel sunroof, not panoramic

Wow, that sucks. Right in my neck of the woods too!

I believe the glass sunroof is an individual part that can be ordered - part number 95856407100

I would probably have the dealership do this for me, as there is probably a lot of work to get it out and reinstalled (like removing the headliner), and then reprogrammed to start/stop in the correct places, etc.

I spoke with the dealer yesterday and was told that they do not do that kind of repair and that I should take it to a Glass/Body shop to repair. I had already spoken to a body shop who referred me to their company who deals with their glass repairs and they told me that I should probably contact the dealer for the repair. Round and around I go.

You need a good body shop. It's not a glass repair. It's a module replacement with a lot of trim removal and reinstallation.

I expect insurance will cover that.

Looks like someone hit it with a hammer - best of luck getting it fixed.

Just curious if you have made an insurance contact. I would think it would be covered under a comprehensive policy, which would not affect your rates. It surely will not be a low-cost item.

good luck with it.

Ill be contacting my insurance company tomorrow to see what they will do. I am pretty sure it was a defect of the tempered glass. I was driving when this happened the glass is pushed upwards like it imploded. Either way it still shattered ill update on what I find out tomorrow.

I would *not* mention to the insurance company that you think it was a defect. That would likely not be an insured event.

958nurse.

Have to admit, I have never heard of a sunroof shatter.
Agree with defective glass.
Also, agree with ImI999. You don't want to give the insurance co. any wiggle room to deny claim.

Beat me to it, Lee. Why give the insurance company an easy out? All they need to know is it shattered while driving...end of story.

Sure looks like an impact point and star pattern to me...

"Yes, I was just driving along, heard a crash and the thing exploded in my lap. No, I did not see the truck that probably kicked up the rock..."

Dashcam? What dashcam?

...of course, tell the truth, but don't volunteer unnecessary information...

...and I was going to suggest that now would be a fabulous time to upgrade to an alcantara headliner, but it looks like that upgrade isn't necessary.
