lose your keys? 4+ weeks to replace? (Apple AirTag w/ Belkin Secure Holder)
this did not happen to me but another Cayenne owner I know
he (well his son) lost both keys & it took him 4 weeks to get replacements from Porsche due to current supply chain issues
bottom line, do not lose all your keys!
even though I have never lost a key,
due to their cost (& just piece of mind), for both of my keys I added an
The Smart Tag is great idea! I’m a lot more careful after I lost the key to a previous car. I had parked up and then dropped it when I was out for a bike ride. The smart tag could have saved me then, but I was on a 10 mile long route through woods, not sure what the range is on these? (Bluetooth not GPS?)
The spare key’s battery was flat but unlike these keys it was a sealed unit. Dealer wanted the car taken to them on a flatbed truck at a specified time and then said reprogramming “may not work” and was going to be costly. Luckily I found an independent auto locksmith who fixed the old key for £20, despite BMW saying this was not possible.
So anyway, these Porsche ones have two other ways to fail (a) battery can run out since they’re always transmitting, (b) they are not waterproof, so easy to damage the electronics, e.g. if you drive and go running/cycling/swimming outside. I keep a spare battery with mine and put the key in a small sealable plastic bag. It might be a good idea to take it apart and coat the circuit board with conformal coating sealant.
