I would imagine either of those locations would position the battery too far below and at risk of impact, should you drive over a road hazard. Plus, there could be lines that run along the underside
which would face challenges having to go around a battery now recessed below the floor.

Space must come from somewhere...either lower to the ground or reducing cargo area. The only reason under the seat makes sense to me is that this space is unused anyway.
The fuel tank is under the spare, or in my case, the hybrid battery so going below would mean being under the hybrid battery. Not a favorable scenario. Repositioning the hybrid battery
and redesigning the Cayenne to accept both the main battery and the hybrid in a side by side configuration would be possible but that would have cost much more and would not have
allowed Porsche to use the same petrol only body as a hybrid.
