My Cayenne base V6 is throwing a P261C00 code (coolant pump 2 short circuit to ground). This past weekend have been trying to take a closer look at what is going on with the auxiliary coolant pump but could not access it. Based on my research it is sitting being the engine (cabin side), above the transmission. I tried accessing it from under the car, above the car, removed the passenger side fender liner but none of these options worked.
And unfortunately ALLDATAdiy does not provide instructions on how to replace it. Any ideas how I can get proper access to it without removing too many parts?
No luck searching. Looked at Google, Rennlist, Renntech, Pelican Parts but no luck. Obviously, lots of articles regarding the water pump but nothing regarding the auxiliary coolant pump...
I checked the fuses. The one for the pump keeps blowing out....
I’ll give it another try this weekend. If I can’t get to the pump, I’ll just send the car to my shop.
Are we speaking of the second water pump that is used to heat the car's cabin? That's located under the wheel well on the driver's side of the car, not the passenger's side.
I just got done with both wheel wells and should have taken better pictures of the driver's side while the cover was off. Here is what the driver's side looks like and I think the pump is accessible vis this route.

Reason: Typo's
Doing a quick share here since this is the first post that comes up in a google search.
Confirming a few things:
- Alldata has P&L info, but does NOT have replacement info.
- This is located behind the engine block favoring the passenger side, not the driver side fender (on a base 3.6 at least)
Here is a pic of the drvier side wheel well. There is a water valve located there, not aux pump (this is a 2012).
Here is the general location behind the block
And here is an up close shot of the pump wrapped in the heat cover
Finally got around to looking at this today.
Similar to 72911 i had a tough time getting the connector removed. I ended up taking a 90° hose pick and slipping it under the tab from the rear. Connector came off pretty easily after that. I had a bit of noticeable something or other.... corrosion/rust I guess. Cleaned it up and reattached. Doing some other work on the car so I can start it yet, but I'll report back if that solved my issue.
Quick update on this.
After cleaning and reattaching the plug, my CEL turned off. It stayed off for about 40-60 miles or so, but today it turned back on with the same code.
