Excellent thread!! i also need to replace my front diff (front axle carrier) on 2013 cayenne S, dreading this. Hoping i can just replace the pinion bearing, or whatever bearing connects the driveshaft to the front diff. here is video of the sound. any input would be appreciated. link to thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...pension-2.html

sounds like mine did when it failed. Unlikely to be just the bearing. Easier to replace compete anyway.

damn, i was hoping for better news. Also, the nail in the coffin is when we had the car on the lift the other day, we tried to spin the front wheels by hand, and they wouldnt spin at all. We did the same to the rear wheels and they spun freely.

did you tap it out from the diff side or the T-case side? i think in the workshop manual it said to use an elbow tool to take it out but in the picture it looked like they were doing it from the t-case side. It also said to make sure to use something to keep it propped up.

this is the only picture in the workshop manual which looks like the t-case side

All the 958 CVs/driveshafts are circlip retained; just pop them off and replace the circlip, and pop back on to reinstall.

If you're ordering the parts, you should get everything: circlips, the o-rings that seal the driveshaft interface, and also the plastic shield on the transfer case as that usually gets smashed when levering off the driveshaft.

Default Replaced front diff, problem solved!

Hello all, today was the day my buddy and I swapped the diff in his garage. Took 9 hours total but we were surprised how smooth it went. Both sounds in the videos I posted earlier in this thread are now gone, car is driving perfectly! A couple things to note, we did not need to remove the entire front driveshaft we propped it up with bungee cords (you will see below) and when we took the diff out, we took it out going towards the rear of the car twisting and turning it to get it out. We propped the driveshaft very high up to make sure it was out of the way. Then the diff came out, and the new one went in, very cleanly. You will see in the pictures below how much we dropped the subframe. This thread helped me so much, thank you everyone for your help!

This is the used diff I purchased, got delivered about a week ago, inspected and looked good.

Better view from the beginning of dropping the subframe

Subframe lowered

Subframe lowered all the way and diff has been pulled out. This was a huge relief.

Thank you all, very infomative altogether.
Out of curiosity, would it be possible to remove the front diff and turn Cayenne into a RWD only without being yelled at?!!
